Today
in The
Lowdown:
Photos and highlights from the joyous celebration of Howard Neu's
life held March 23rd in South Florida. Howard did not want a traditional funeral - no people dressed in black, sitting quietly and sadly mourning his passing. He wanted us to celebrate the time we had with him - and what great times those were!
Also
inside: Domain aftermarket action has been limited
largely to the low to middle range recently but high end sales are returning to the
spotlight. Our latest Top 20 Sales Chart
is led by a $500,000 one-word .com, a $300,000 3-letter .com, two
more six-figure .coms and a fifth that just missed by a $1,000. While those were
all .coms the .ai boom also continued with six more landing on the elite
list.

The State of the Industry 2024: 36 Experts Reflect on the Past Year and Predict What's Ahead For Us Now
|
It's here! Our 20th Annual
State of the Industry Cover Story. DNJournal was launched on New
Year's Day 2003. A year later, in January 2004, we started our annual State
of the Industry Cover Stories with experts from all corners of the industry
commenting on what they saw as the highs and lows of the past year as well as
what they were expecting in the year ahead. We wanted this 20th annual edition
to be the biggest we have ever done and that challenge has been met
thanks to three dozen industry leaders who responded to our interview
requests.

Welcome

January since 2005 we have assembled a
distinguished panel of experts drawn from
every corner of the industry-
including domain investors, developers,
top corporate leaders and attorneys
- to give us their thoughts on the key
trends of the past year and what they saw
coming our way in the new year ahead.
This year we
have put together our biggest panel ever, 17
of the industry' best and brightest, and
split them into two groups of eight each -
one comprised of investors &
developers and one of corporate
leaders. We will the extra spot with
an attorney who has a foot firmly planted
on each side of the line.

The
domain industry has lost one of its true
giants with the passing T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference
Co-Founder Howard Neu, a
pioneering domain attorney and one of
the key architects of the global
community our industry enjoys today. At
the same time, Howard's family lost a
devoted husband to wife Barbara (a
domain industry treasure in her own right),
a loving father to his daughters, a doting
grandfather with four grandchildren and an
over-the-moon great grandfather with two
great grandchildren.
Howard
was one of the most intelligent and multi-talented
people we've ever known. They say that cats
have nine lives but they had nothing
on Howard Neu who led professional
lives as an accountant, attorney, judge,
city councilman, mayor, TV host, actor,
singer, domain investor, conference producer
and community builder. That's 11 and
we've probably missed a few more.
Still, it's not the quantity that is so
impressive, it is the fact that he did
everything so well. Howard was a true
modern day Renaissance
Man.

The
Internet
Commerce Association (ICA)
returned to Las
Vegas for their 2024 Annual Meeting
where they were welcomed January 17-20 by a
crowd that grew 50% over last year. With
their latest conference, the ICA has firmly
established their event as
one of the most important ones on
the industry's global conference
calendar. Among the many things it has
going for it is that attending the meeting
and supporting
the ICA is in your own best
interests as it enables them to continue
the invaluable work they do to protect
domain owner's rights. There
is more to it than that though. If
you didn't attend the Annual Meetings you
are no doubt wondering what makes this
conference different from all of the
rest? We'll tell you what is in their secret
