Tunisia.com and England.Net Change Hands To Head Another Big Week of Domain Sales

by Ron Jackson

It looks like Chris Chena (who will be the subject of our July Cover Story) may have started a trend last week when he bought Paraguay.com for $150,000. When domain buyers went shopping this week, country names seemed to be at the top of their buy lists. The week's #1 reported sale was Tunisia.com which went for $40,000 at Sedo.com. The first runner-up was England.net, a domain that sold for $29,000 in a post-drop auction at SnapNames.com. Though increasingly high prices sometimes leave people shaking their heads, both of those domains look to be excellent buys from where we sit.

Sedo and Snapnames both had superb weeks. In addition to having the headliner on the new DNJournal.com Top Ten chart, Sedo placed three more domains on the Big Board. SnapNames went one better, claiming five positions, including numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5 in a row! Snap's run included iGame.com at $26,050, PinupGirls.com at $16,050 and Scooter.net at $14,016. It was an unusually good week for .net which posted a trio of Top Ten entries that was rounded out by #8 Fussball.net at 10,050 ($12,121). That domain was sold at German exchange Nicit.de

Speaking of Germany, three of that country's popular .de domains also landed on our new leader's list. TravelRes.de and 50Plus.de went for 11,600 ($13,989) each and www2ftp.de weighed in at 9,280 ($11,192). All three of those were sold at Sedo who dominates the ccTLD market. Every name on this week's chart cracked the five-figure mark and another at that level fell just short of making the marquee.

On the new extension front, .biz continues to blossom, leading our New TLD chart for the 4th week in a row with a nice mid 4-figure sale. There was also a 5-figure .us sale at Sedo but the exact price was not released. We'll tell you more about that (including the name of the domain) a bit later in our new TLD section. Right now let's take a look at the complete leader board for the week ending June 26:

10. www2FTP.de 9,280 = $11,192 Sedo

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

#9 InternetGame.com (at $11,867) helped SnapNames claim half of this week's Top Ten for their trophy case. Sedo also walked off with an armload of top honors. In addition to their four chart entries they had a fifth 5-figure sale, SwingerClubs.com at an even $10,000. NameFinder.com used a Sedo listing to find the buyer for that domain.

As always, Sedo's list of solid sales extended far beyond the Big Board. They collected $9,000 apiece for LocalGolf.com and LFL.com. The 3-letter domain was purchased by KenCunliffe at TopNames.com. Lorica.com commanded $5,000 while Bizi.com and 7Z.com went for $4,000 each. Manga2.com was another step back at $3,000 and in what was probably the bargain of the week, someone snagged Siblings.com for just 1,000 ($1,206). When is the last time you saw a decent one-word .com go for a price like that?

Sedo's list was also studded with some sweet country code sales. E-Mails.at (Austrian ccTLD) attracted 5,500 ($6,633) and Allergie.fr (French country code) was also nothing to sneeze at, bringing in 3,700 ($4,462). JOP.de deposited 3,350 ($4,040), Global.cn (China's country code) corralled $3,530 and Adware.cn added $1,000. Though the prices weren't as high this week, Sedo also moved a couple more from their .ws/.cc bargain bin. Canarias.ws sold for 350 ($422) and GameCheats.cc scored $300.

SnapNames was just getting warmed up with their starting five's dunkfest on our Big Board. Their bench was also loaded with all-stars. CheapLogos.com landed $9,908, OnlineCreditReports.com revealed $8,900 and MediaCalendar.com posted $7,700. BaseballJersey.com sported a spiffy $7,655, Gin.net guzzled $6,766 and LogCabinFurniture.com seated $6,444. BigTires.com rolled up $6,106, Whammy.com put the mojo on $5,922 and CareerChanges.com earned a $5,616 pay boost.

The hits just kept on coming at SnapNames where RoughRider.com saddled up with $4,988, Candlewax.com dripped $4,766 and EMac.com caught $4,500. GermanHistory.com recalled $2,850, MyNextJob.com paid $2,500 and eComputing.com tallied $2,450. CheapElectricScooters.com plugged in $2,450 as well, with ResearchIndex.com uncovering $2,356 and 840.com dialing up $1,750. A couple of 4-digit domains also brought unusually high prices. 0753.com went for $3,433 and 0572.com called in $2,450.

Now let's go out by the Pool.com where the action was also hot and heavy. DiamondAnniversaryRings.com led the way there at $8,200 and a listing on the new Global Domain Name Exchange (GDNX.org), DivorceTricks.com sold for $7,100 via Pool's Marketplace. LuxuryTax.com levied $5,099, HouseAndLand.com totalled $4,105 and Prezervatif.com stored $3,650. Unites.com pulled together $3,300, WilcoWorld.com wound up with $2,780 and CheckCashingServices.com tacked on $2,750

Also at Pool, MCash.com made $2,700, BlogHosts.com served up $2,600 and SpeedDates.com raced off with $2,300. Poda.com contributed $1,850, MexicanBrides.com fetched $1,801 and NevadaPalace.com impressed with $1,700. A couple of 4-letter acronyms also did well with UCFV.com adding $1,605 and EBIT.com biting off $1,575. At the opposite end of the length scale, NewportBeachCondominiums.com collected $1,550.

At Enom's Club Drop, StopForclosure.com (a misspell) went for $7,700, HertzRentalCars.com drove off with $5,300 and YUU.com collared $4,400. Welt.net went for $2,200, followed by InflatableSlides.com at $2,100 and a pair at $2,000 each; Trigen.com and SonyPS3.com

Confidentiality agreements kept Afternic.com from releasing their two biggest sales this week (one of those would have ranked among the top five on our Year To Date chart and the other was a 5-figure .cn sale) but they still posted some nice results. LuxuryShirts.com slipped into $3,888, MedicalSentry.com sounded a $3,650 alert and TruckerHats.com tipped $3,500. VirtualWebHosting.com brought $3,000, HipHopStore.com wrapped up $2,788, BeijingTravel.com arrived with $2,500 and PayPerClip.com returned $2,250. Also, Hog.ca (Canadian country code) brought home $1,000 worth of bacon.

Over at DotcomAgency.com, BudgetSport.com scored $3,612, BackgammonClub.com added $3,500 and FastWorker.com posted $2,500.

****

With the entry level for our Year-To-Date Sales Chart currently at $30,000, just one new member joined the club this week. That was Tunisia.com at $40,000. Here are the biggest winners reported so far in 2005:

New TLD Section

It is looking more and more like .biz might be taking over as the boss in New Domainville. For the 4th week in a row that extension heads our New TLD sales chart. However to be fair, this week's win comes by default. Sedo.com told us they sold Mails.us for a 5-figure ($XX,XXX) price that the parties involved asked them not to disclose. If that sale has been reported it would give .us four of the top five sales on our Year-To-Date new extension leader's list.

When you factor in that .info still has the most sales on our YTD chart, you can see that all three of the new TLD's have something to brag about...and more good news is on the way. In auctions that closed after our current reporting period ended Sunday night, Afternic sold WhitePages.biz for $4,995 and CBA.us for $1,250. Those two will be eligible for next week's chart (and WhitePages.biz gives .biz a leg up on a 5th consecutive week at the top).

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's let this week's leader, MyHouse.biz, enjoy it's turn in the spotlight. The domain changed hands for $4,500 in a private transaction between seller Omni Marketing Group and buyer Peter McMillan. MyHouse.biz easily outdistanced the #2 domain, SuperLastMinute.info at 1,000 ($1,206). .US took the #3 slot with Hedonism.us at $900 and the American country code rode off with 4 of this week's 8 positions overall. RBA.info completed the top half of the chart at $750

Sedo and Afternic each placed three domains on our new list, with the other two changing hands in private transactions. Here's a look at the complete new extension leader board for the week ending June 26:

In other new TLD sales, BrokeringDomains.com sold Assistants.biz for $300, Lore.info changed hands at NamePros.com for $250 and Cocktail.us sold at Sedo for $200. Someone also got a nice buy on an excellent keyword term at Sedo where FreeMP3Download.info went for 150 ($181).

MyHouse.biz joins our New TLD Year-To-Date chart at #15 this week. We bumped our entry level up to $2,000 which keeps our chart at 50 positions. Here are your New TLD leaders through June 26:

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
