Gorilla.com Goes Ape! Smashes Door Into the Year's Top Ten with a $496,000 Sale

An old joke asks "where does an 800-pound gorilla sit?" The answer, or course, is "anywhere it wants to!" Well this week, Gorilla.com decided it wanted to sit at the to of our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart and no one was able to stop it after industry pioneer and RightOfTheDot.com President Monte Cahn let us know he closed a $496,320 deal for Gorilla.com last month. The domain was bought a major eSports betting company based in Russia and they are already operating from the attention-getting new acquisition. In addition to easily topping this week's chart, Gorilla.com claimed a spot among the ten biggest domain sales reported so far this year.

The non .com gTLDs also got a new member of their 2019 top ten when we learned about a $91,000 sale of ZB.app to an as yet unidentified Chinese buyer. The sale, that went through Afternic, closed last month and, in addition to landing at #2 on this week's chart, it ranks as the year's third biggest sale in this category, trailing only Casinos.org ($400,000 in June) and Free.games ($335,000 in May).

The ccTLDs also got into the act with one of their 20 biggest sales of the year to date. DomainLore.uk moved Holiday.co.uk for $35,927, putting it at #4 on this week's chart and #18 on our YTD ccTLD Top 100 (the second chart on the page linked to).

The first five on this week's honor roll was rounded out by a pair of Uniregistry sales - #3 Squeezed.com at $50,000 and #5 TravelAdvantage.com at $33,000. Uni went on to pile up nine chart entries overall, including a second one for the non .com gTLDs - #15 (tie) Faculty.net at $10,000.

Still, it was the .coms that ran rampant, sweeping 17 of the 20 chart entries including six that went through Sedo. Their group was led by #6 Wedog.com at $25,000. The .coms also got a boost from DomainMarket.com's $14,888 sale of #11 EnterpriseAuction.com to Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Media Code, LLC's $10,000 sale of #15 (tie) FOTC.com via Uniregistry.
