Domain Market Boom Continues With a Flood of High End Sales and .AI  Running Rampant

Summer used to be a slow time in the domain aftermarket but this year an inferno of high end sales have been lighting up our charts in a way we seldom see in a season usually thought of as time to take a vacation. Instead buyers and sellers have stayed busy closing one impressive sale after another. The latest headliners are a quartet of six-figure sales and another humongous wave of .ai sales

You may recall that in our last bi-weekly report, when there were only two .ai domains on the Top 20, I noted more big sales were undoubtedly closing but simply hadn't been reported yet. Well, right on cue, the release of that backlog led to .ai sweeping the majority of entries on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, taking 11 places in all.

The .coms did take three of the top four though and there was a very interesting back story attached to each one of those. The biggest was Sedo's chart topping $500,000 sale of Dollars.com in a deal brokered by Mark "Mr. Premium" Ghoriafi. We broke that story in our Lowdown section last week and now that it has been officially charted Mark can claim three of the ten biggest publicly reported sales so far this year (he had previously scored with Double.com at $980,000 and Pack.com at $600,000).

In another outstanding sale, Andy Gruff at Nametra.com sold #2 CarbonEnergy.com through Afternic for $400,000. The amazing story here is that Andy originally bought the domain for $105. He had to be really patient to reap that jaw-dropping ROI though - Andy bought it over 18 years ago and has held it all of this time waiting for the right buyer to come along.

The $125,000 sale of #4 Crossfire.com that Yinan Wang made, also through Afternic, was another remarkable example of a mind blowing return on investment, Yinan has bought that domain on Sedo just two months ago for $18,000! That doesn't happen every day, of course, but the fact that this business makes it possible for a smart investor to more than quintuple their money in such a short period of time is one of the reasons why people in it love it so much.

That quartet at the top also includes .ai's leader of the pack, a $200,000 sale of #3 Rank.ai made at Namecheap, a venue that has become the industry's biggest .ai hitmaker. Namecheap went on to account for 10 of the 11 charted .ai sales. Sedo posted the other one with #14 Champ.ai at $49,000.

The .coms took all of the remaining entries, leaving no room at the inn for non .com gTLDs again this time out. The .coms got a nice boost from CanavasMedia.com who produced three charted sales, led by #5 Bedroom.com at $87,600.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past two weeks. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. There were nearly two dozen more five-figure sales off the chart led by a $40,000 sale of Bier.nl ("beer" in Dutch) that Tappaya.com joined with WebshopOvername.nl to make. In any week this year other than this one, that would have been a Top 20 sale. That just goes to show you how strong the market has been the past two weeks. As you'll see on the supplemental chart below, the same team sold Bier.be (to the same buyer) for $10,000.

Elsewhere, Sedo padded their stuffed sales ledger with Urn.com at $39,500 and Saw.com complemented their $43,000 sale of #20 SOLX.com with another nice one in Aspora.com at $35,000. Country Codes

For the first time I can remember, the ccTLDs have, literally, left me at a loss for words in this section! That is because we list all five-figure and higher sales in the all extension section above. Those that are ccTLD sales are, of course, also shown on our bi-weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. This time the ccTLD chart, thanks largely to the jet fuel injection they've gotten from .ai, is completely filled with five and six figure sales that you already saw above! I guess there is one word I could say - amazing!

So, to see sales from this category that you haven't seen yet, you'll need to look at all of the four-figure sales that are listed below the chart. Meanwhile, for the record, here is how the top ccTLDs lined up behind chart topper Rank.ai at $200,000 for the two weeks ending Sunday, June 22, 2025:
