3-Letter .Com Sells for $93,000 at Sedo to Lead This Week's Sales List

by Ron Jackson

The domain market turned in another very powerful performance this week with every domain in our Top Ten hitting 5 figures, including the 3-letter leader that just missed the 6-figure mark. That was OLT.com, purchased for $93,000 at Sedo.com by the people who run Online-Taxes.com. That blockbuster sale helped Sedo take four of the ten positions on our Big Board.

Pool.com made a big splash as well, taking the #2 slot with the $47,000 sale of MyShopping.com. Sedo then returned to the plate and hit another one out of the park, moving FitnessEquipment.com for $25,000 to nail down #3. SnapNames.com was up next and they also came through in the clutch, delivering their first of three Top Ten entries with #4 Tenn.com going for $18,850.

Afternic.com joined the party with another big 3-letter .com sale. They attracted $17,500 for MGL.com. There were only two non-.com's on this week's list and Sedo had both of those. They racked up 9,000 ($17,037) for #6 AudioDealer.co.uk and added another 9,500 ($12,241) for #8 Exchange.org. Sandwiched between those two domains was #7 HomeTours.com, purchased by Jim Cassidy of VirtualShipTours.com for $15,000 in a private sale. Cassidy told us the domain will fit perfectly into a set of names he has put together to present 360-degree virtual tours. He already had ShipTours.com and HotelTours.com for the travel segment and now, with HomeTours.com, has the ideal domain for presenting real estate in the round.

There are many many more sales to tell you about from one of the busiest sales weeks this year, but first let's take a look at the complete Top Ten for the week ending May 1:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

SnapNames took two of the last three spots on this week's chart with #9 ElectronicCheck.com at $11,141 and Neos.com at an even $10,000. Neos.com and Capes.com which sold at Ebay, tied for the anchor position on our new list. In addition to their trio of Top Ten entries, SnapNames had a remarkably deep roster of additional sales winners headed by RankMe.com at $8,900

Their hot streak continued with HoldenPoker.com (a misspelling of the wildly popular Texas Holdem variation of poker) that raked in a $7,606 pot. GolfTip.com tapped in $7,200 and WineGiftBaskets.com uncorked another $7,100. Giso.com contributed $6,200, FoodCourt.com gobbled another $5,550 and Hydrocortisone.com added a soothing $5,306. The hits just kept on coming with Torget.com at $5,100 and Angelifire.com (a very high traffic misspelling that scores 2,202 with the extension in Overture) at $4,501Piles.com stacked up $4,104 and ChoirRobes.com added a heavenly $4,100 while ZDU.com and ServicePro.com brought in $3,550 each.

Believe it or not, there is still more from the SnapNames juggernaut. IndustrialServices.com kicked in $2,900 while HomeMedical.com and CarSalvage.com retrieved $2,800 each. Regs.com commanded $2,240, PaperCuts.com carved out $2,051, Namex.com brought $2,050 and Contraban.com (177 with the extension in Overture) called in $1,550. SnapNames also sold a 2-character .net, J4.net for $1,550.

It was also a very busy week at Pool.com. In addition to their $47,000 blockbuster on the Big board, they piled up more than two dozen additional sales worth noting. Pool has made some changes recently that seem to be bringing a lot of disaffected customers back into the fold. One of those announced this week will assign permanent ID's to each bidder in their auctions, so customers will have a better idea of who they are bidding against. Sales from poolside this week included GetMobile.com at $4,800, EuropeCarRentals.com at $4,436 and RoseBushes.com at $3,900. FindYourHome.com located $3,600, AccountingProgram.com added $3,366 and DallasRentals.com returned $3,300

Also making a splash at Pool were eCricket.com at $3,200, InsurePoint.com at $3,001 and WireService.com at $2,672. WorkInAustin.com clocked in at $2,600, MySpaace.com (misspelling that scores 501 with the extension in Overture) rolled up $2,300 and ActionMovie.com sped off with $2,200. ComputerTowers.com brought in $2,105, ToonTime.com tallied $2,100 and SellingStuff.com collected $1,950. BaltimoreLimo.com and another My Space misspelling, Msypace.com (541 with the extension in Overture) added $1,900 each, while EncryptMail.com delivered $1,800. EuropeanTimeShare.com was worth $1,611 followed by Copymaster.com at $1,600 and a pair at $1,550 each; WeekendPackages.com and StripperParty.com

DotcomAgency.com enjoyed a nice week as well. They dipped into JellyJar.com for $8,000 and spread it on $7,000 worth of bread from Jexy.com. TextileRecycling.com returned another $4,290 while PIGear.com contributed $2,000. That could be read as "pig ear" but the buyer intends to use it as "PI Gear".

At Afternic, eWealth.com banked $7,000, HotMilitaryStud.com commanded $3,000 and P2PSports.com scored $2,995. ContactBar.com contributed another $2,750, ClawBot.com scratched out $2,650 and EmergencyCleanup.com mopped up $2,500. Afternic also had a pair at $2,000 each; StrategySystems.com and AllMustDie.com

Sedo touched all of the bases again this week. In addition to their quartet of Top Ten entries, they rang up 5,000 ($6,441) each for Astrovoyance.com and Bingo.at (Austrian country code domain). UMeet.net gathered another 4,820 ($6,209) and SegwayCenter.com rolled up $3,045. As usual, Sedo was also all over our New TLD chart where they had four 4-figure sales. We'll have more on that a bit later.

Enom's Club Drop shared in the wealth again this week. They cooked up $5,400 with BBQStuff.com and added $5,200 for WestValleyCity.com. SouthBooty.com shook up another $3,000 while RealEstateIRA.com banked $2,200 and DisasterKits.com kicked in $1,500

Some other choice sales were made in private transactions. Jeremy Padawer picked up a domain even his mother would love, Jeremy.com, for $8,900.  In other deals, Gobi.com changed hands for $8,000 and a Kuwaiti company bought KNPC.com for $5,000. A Hungarian country code domain also got into the act, thanks to someone wolfing down HotDog.hu for $1,019

Our Year-To-Date chart gets four new members this week, as well as one new advertiser, Howard Hoffman's PPCIncome.com.  PPCIncome reviews the various PPC companies by placing active portfolios with the leading companies in that sector, then reporting how they perform against their competitors. His spadework could help you milk more money from your traffic domains. Speaking of traffic, the 75 domains on our current YTD top sellers list produce a ton of it. Here are the biggest winners so far in 2005:

New TLD Section

The new extensions shared in the hot and heavy sales activity this week with five sales cracking the four figure mark. Sedo ruled the roost by posting 7 of the top 8 reported sales, including the chart leader, Attest.info at 2,700 ($3,478). Our new list features four .infos, three .biz and one .us. The #2 domain might be the bargain of the week. Someone picked up Science.info for just $3,272 at Ebay. It's a marvelous match between keyword and extension and you won't have to spend a lot of time in the lab to see the enormous potential in that name.

.Biz continues to score with 3-letter combinations. Last week BES.biz went for over $7,000. Nothing quite that spectacular this time out but #3 AAC.biz is still nothing to sniff at after going for 1,250 ($1,610) at Sedo. .Biz also took the #4 slot, with Abenteuer.biz ("adventure" in German) going for 1,100 ($1,416). The other four-figure entry was MoneyLaundering.info which left 950 ($1,223) in the wash. Here's a look at the complete New TLD leader's list for the week ending May 1:

Just off the chart, Sedo also sold Newsletter.biz for 350 ($452), Matrimonio.info for 250 ($323) and DreamTeam.biz for 200 ($258).  Elsewhere, Pool.com collected $343 for Memorabilia.biz.

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
