Moniker Moves GolfResorts.com For Over $60,000 To Top Our Latest Leader Board

by Ron Jackson

One of golf's greatest events, the U.S. Open, is being played this week at Pinehurst, North Carolina. As it happens, golf is in the spotlight in the domain world this week as well. Brian Null of BeachFarmNine.com confirmed that his company purchased GolfResorts.com for $60,800 so they can develop a new resource for traveling/vacationing golfers. Null, who also owns GolfCourses.com, said "we strongly believe in the value of prime, generic dot coms and waiting on this one cost me many a night's sleep. Big thanks to Monte Cahn of Moniker.com for helping me, yet again, with a domain purchase of significant size."

GolfResorts.com headlines another strong week in the domain business with 8 domains on our new Top Ten cracking the five-figure mark. In addition the number of solid four-figure sales just seems to get longer and longer each week with significant sales reports popping up at venues throughout the industry. Our #2 domain, Chords.com, changed hands for $35,000 at the DomainState.com forum where one of the administrators snapped it up almost as soon as it was listed in a sales post there.

A superb .org, America.org, ranks 3rd after going for $20,000 at Afternic.com. The next three positions were all claimed by Sedo.com, with #4 MiniVideos.com leading the way at $15,000. The seller of that domain was DotComAgency's Ian Andrew who (as you'll see a bit later on) also had a couple of other nice sales from his home site.

Address.co.uk (one of two UK country code domains on this week's big board) completed the upper half our our new chart after going for 7,200 ($13,002). Sedo and Pool.com were the only venues to land multiple domains on this week's Top Ten. Pool did it with #7 WhatsGoingOn.com at $11,000 and #9 BlueSpruce.com at $8,900.

Let's take a look at the complete leader board for the week ending June 12 then we will tackle one of the longest sales lists we've seen so far in 2005!

8. WirelessMD.com $10,250 SnapNames
9. BlueSpruce.com $8,900 Pool
10. EngineeringJobs.co.uk 4,500 = $8,126 Sedo

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.

Sedo rounded out a quartet of big winners with #6 YSpace.com at 10,000 ($12,030) and #10 EngineeringJobs.co.uk at 4,500 ($8,126). SnapNames.com claimed the final opening on our new chart with #8 WirelessMD.com going for $10,250.

We know of more than 20 other sales at SnapNames ranging from $2,000 to more than $7,000 this week. HowToDance.com is at the top of that list at $7,300, with APNJobs.com close behind at $7,100. ReorderChecks.com added $6,355, followed by Kiddo.com ($6,100), ComputerCable.com ($6,050) and Befit.com ($4,800). SaintLukes.com delivered another $4,650, HawaiiBeachRental.com contributed $4,600 and GamesForum.com scored $4,416. Another Aloha State domain, HawaiianWedding.com, went for $4,172 while DebtInformation.com dredged up $4,050 and SaveMarriage.com salvaged $3,988.

AdultFiction.com added $3,600 to the SnapNames ledger, another $3,350 hinged on HardwoodDoors.com and Conifer.com coaxed $3,333. Couleur.com kicked in $3,001, YVO.com went for $2,750 and CityService.com reigned in $2,498. Rounding out the SnapNames list were Multitude.com ($2,238), Nougat.com ($2,081) and Seva.com ($2,050)

Sedo's success also extended well beyond their four entries on the big board. Abix.com brought them $7,500, Goliath.net weighed in at $7,000 and TQM.com commanded $6,500. PensacolaFloridaRealEstate.com attracted $6,100 even though it will be tough to fit all of those letters on a business card. A trio of domains including VVR.com, LuxusHotel.de ("luxury hotel" in German) and Fusball.de went for 4,500 ($5,413) each.

Also among the Sedo winners were OnlineJob.com and LawDragon.com at $5,000 each. Netherlands country code domain Globereizen.nl ("globe travel" in Dutch) added $4,812 and HTAC.com called in $4,295. The two-character 7Z.com sold for $4,000 and Sabelotodo.com (Spanish for "know it all") earned $3,300 for DomainState senior member RobertF.  Sedo even managed strong sales of a couple of country codes that are seldom seen here. Bet.cc returned 2,500 ($3,007) and Webcams.ws walked off with 2,300 ($2,767). Still another Samoan domain, Green.ws went for $1,250. Seeing that one was a bit of a downer for me. I actually sold that domain on DNForum.com last June for $79!

Pool.com seems to be enjoying quite a renaissance since rethinking their auction format a few weeks back. Their long sales list this week included DSSHelper.com at $6,200, FreeLawyerAdvice.com at $4,050 and TicketSolution.com at $3,950. SaladBar.com wolfed down $3,666, ArubaTravel.com sailed in with $3,608 and CaliforniaCoastVacation.com brought $3,555. Other winners included Bonheur.com ($3,389), CheapGolfVacation.com ($3,150), LuxuryResortSpas.com ($3,055) and LasVegasFamilyVacation.com ($2,950). We've never seen as many sales of l-o-n-g domains as we did this week. It appears the conventional wisdom about value diminishing with length has been going out the window in recent months.

In any case, Pool scored with short domains as well, including AJH.com at $2,600 (sold on the Pool Marketplace). LuxuryShopping.com rang up $2,555 and NationalBanks.com deposited $2,300. Another pair of names that could win distance ribbons,  MinnesotaSecondMortgage.com and ConnecticutMortgageLender.com went for $2,250 each.  CheapSiding.com and MandarinRestaurant.com served up $2,200 each and TexasDebtRelief.com contributed $2,020. BusinessAssociations.com brought another $1,938, PaintingBrush.com rolled up $1,900 and an appropriate closer for Pool's list of marathon monikers, TreatmentForEatingDisorders.com sold for $1,800.

At Enom's Club Drop, Lookster.com led the way at $6,600. YUU.com caught $4,500 and PhoneRecords.com called in $2,900. GilaRiverCasino.com cashed out at $2,800, CompSource.com cinched $2,600 and PimpMyCar.com cruised in with $2,100. Lemax.com also drew $2,100 while Gilad.com and UnitsofMeasurement.com went for $2,000 each.

Back at Afternic, LetsDish.com ladled out $5,300 while Maple.net and Doering.net delivered $5,000 each. AllTheKingsMen.com put together $3,500, DemolitionContractor.com brought down $2,500 and TownAuto.com cranked up $2,400. At DotcomAgency.com BespokeShirts.com buttoned up $4,000 and PottySeat.com dumped $2,500

In a couple of private transactions worth noting, Robert Taylor parted with 2,050 ($3,702) to get Rob.co.uk and Ken Cunliffe of TopNames.com said goodbye to $2,000 so he could finally say hello to his surname, Cunliffe.com.

In the Pipeline: A couple of nice auctions ended above the 10K mark at Enom's Club Drop. OneNightInParis.com (1,207 with the extension in Overture) closed at $13,800 and DomainMarketplace.com drew a $10,200 top bid. If those are paid for and transferred this week, they have a good shot at making next week's Top Ten.

Our Year-To-Date chart gets 2 new members this week led by GolfResorts.com which settles in at #17 after going for over $60,000. We bumped our entry level up to $25,000 this week to make way for the newcomers. Here are the biggest winners reported so far this year:

New TLD Section

As usual Sedo.com accounts for most of the action on our New TLD chart. They posted 6 entries on our new list and would have had more but CEO Matthew Bentley told us Sedo's highest .biz and .info sales could not be released this week due to nondisclosure agreements. My $1,350 sale of CMR.biz (through Sedo) wound up at #1, comfortably outdistancing another 3-letter domain, NHR.us which sold for $750 at BrokeringDomains.com.

A pair of .infos tied for 3rd at 500 ($601) each; Pardon.info and WM06.info. The latter may require some explaining for folks outside of Europe. WM is short for "Weltmeisterschaft" ("World Cup" in German). Germany will host the World Cup football  championship ("soccer" to Americans) in 2006, hence the interest in WM06 as a domain name.

Divemaster.biz surfaced with the #5 domain at 400 ($481). Here's a look at the complete new extension leader board for the week ending June 12:

As always, we welcome all verifiable sales reports from companies, private sellers or individuals with knowledge of an important sale made through any channel. To contribute information and help make this column better,  just drop a note to [email protected].

We truly appreciate the industry leading companies represented on our charts who share their sales information with us to help everyone in the business get a handle on current domain values. Individuals like Richard Meyer of the American Marketing Corporation also provide invaluable help by sending us data for these sales reports each week.

Every Tuesday we publish the highest reported domain name sales for the previous week. On Monday our contributors send us their sales data for the previous 7 days. We then compile that information and write this report for Tuesday publication to give you the freshest sales report in the industry.

We will close with this standard caution. These are not average selling prices - these are top selling domains. One of the biggest impediments to making sales is pricing domains at unrealistic levels. For most of us, pricing domains at the levels achieved on the Top Ten chart will leave us waiting a long time to make a sale! We hope you will use the information presented here as a measuring stick that will help you price your domains at levels that will put more money in your pocket more often!
