If you
are not into gaming you may not be familiar with CS2
skins but if you are a Counter
Strike 2 player, custom skins that
you can use in the free-to-play tactical
first-person shooter game from Valve
Software, are a hot commodity. Skins are cosmetic
items that change the visual appearance of
characters, weapons, or other in-game objects.
They are so popular that the market for
them, while volatile, hit $6 billion in
total value this year. That's why a Hong Kong
based company ponied up $1,459,450 to get
the entire category's exact match domain, Skins.com,
for a newly
launched marketplace for buying,
selling and trading CS2 skins (with 0% fees
for sellers). Neil
Patrick Bostick, the founder of QEIP.com,the
brokerage that closed the Skins.com sale, filled
me in on the deal that was closed a couple of
months ago. The buyers wanted to wait until they
had their marketplace up and running before
letting word of the acquisition get out. With the Skins.com
site as their new home base, Neil said "The
amount of user acquisition the company has gotten
since launch has been tremendous and is an
excellent case study for modern ROI on high
value domains." We
will be charting the sale when our next bi-weekly
domain sales report is released Wednesday evening,
November 26, As of this writing, Skins.com is the
5th highest publicly reported domain sale of the
year to date. It also gives QEIP
credit for their role in two of 2025's
biggest sales to date. In May they worked with Andrew
Miller (Hilco Digital Assets) and Braden
Pollock (LegalBrandMarketing.com) to close a $2,129,509
deal for #3 Fuse.com. |
