The
domain aftermarket has a new heavyweight
champion. In a post on his FreeSpeech.com
blog this morning, industry pioneer George
Kirikos reported he had discovered the price
that Shopify paid Market America for
Shop.com in a deal
announced last month. That announcement did not
disclose the price but Kirikos found the
astounding number - $99 million - in a
single line item for intangible assets in a newly
released Shopify financial filing. Several
weeks ago, another industry veteran, MediaOptions.com
Founder Andrew Rosener, posted on X.com
that, while at a private party, he had heard the
name was sold for $100 million, but that range had
not been corroborated until now. At $99 million,
Shop.com easily surpasses the previous
record-holder, AI.com at $70 million.
AI.com had also made a huge leap ahead of its
predecessor, Voice.com at $30 million. |
