Big
Deal for Dollars.com Tops This Week's Domain Sales Chart
This week's big winner, Dollars.com, scored a first
round knockout, changing hands for nine times more money than the
nearest competitor. Rick Latona of DigiPawn.com, who has long been associated
with this domain, decided to let it go when buyer Virtual
Network SA of Switzerland weighed in with a $650,000
offer. This is the 6th biggest sale reported so
far this year. Latona has now had a hand in three of 2007's
fifteen biggest sales. In addition to selling Dollars.com, he bought Iran.com
for $400,000 last month and Buckhead.com (the name of
the upscale Atlanta neighborhood he lives in) for $250,000
in March. The total he paid for those two nice geo domains is
exactly what he got back by cashing out Dollars.com.
By Ron Jackson
The buyer, Virtual Network SA, has now
been involved in a pair of the year's 20 biggest transactions. Two
weeks ago they sold Masculin.com ("masculine" in
French) to a magazine publisher for $201,792. They've now put
the proceeds right back to work with their big investment in
Dollars.com.
Another private transaction produced this
week's #2 sale, a $75,000 deal for Cushion.com
engineered by seller Derek Giordano who made it happen with a
series of cold calls to potential new owners. He finally struck gold
when he found a willing buyer at CustomCushions.net, a well
established company in the replacement patio cushion market.
We saw another wave of completed sales
from last month's Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
Auction in New York this
week. To make room for all of them we expanded our usual Top 20
chart to 30 positions. 16 of those spots were taken by auction sales
including 9 on the top half of the Big Board. Their string of hits
began with Glamorous.com and Camping.net, a pair of
names that tied for the #3 slot at $60,000 each.
Sedo.com
still managed to shine amid the flood of auction sales, piling up
nine chart entries of their own, including #8 Periodico.com
("magazine" in Spanish) at €25,000 ($34,347). SnapNames.com.
Afternic.com/BuyDomains.comand TDNAM.com
all have representatives on the elite list as well.
Considering that there was a hiatus last week for one of America's
biggest holidays (Independence Day - July 4th) the number of
sales booked this week was quite solid.
.Com again took the lion's share of
rungs on the sales ladder, but .org showed well with four
charted domains. .Net also bowed twice and .mobi got
into the act with the final entry on the all-extension leader
board. Here is how all of the top sellers stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July

value sales that have been reported to us in the

not a complete list documenting ALL high

Global Contenders
(.biz, .info, .mobi, .net & .org)
With another big group of sales from the Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
auction closing this week we also expanded our Global Contenders
chart from 20 to 30 positions. The Moniker auction accounted for the
top five sales, including Camping.net at $60,000. That
is the 7th biggest sale in the GC category so far this year.
The .nets dominated our latest list, piling
up 20 of the 30 entries, however .org reeled off three
straight wins in positions two through four and charted eight
domains overall. .Mobi and .info also got into the act with one name
each on the GC leader board. #6 Hoteis.mobi
("hotels" in Portuguese) checked out with €7,537 ($10,355)
at Sedo. Words.info took the #7 slot with a $5,200
sale at Afternic/BuyDomains.

Country Codes
Considering how thoroughly Sedo.com dominates
the Country Code category we knew that sooner or later they
would sweep every single position on one of our weekly ccTLD
charts. Well it happened this week, and it is especially impressive
because a 7-way tie for the final position meant they had to take 23
of 23 sales rather than the usual 20 to pull off this first-time
ever feat.
Sedo was founded in Germany so it is
appropriate that that country's popular .de extension helped
them dominate so thoroughly this week. 11 of the chart entries were
.de including four of the top five. The leader of the band was wwwPreisvergleich.de
("price comparison" in German) at €3,220 ($4,423).
The European Union's .eu also had a strong
outing with 7 charted domains. Other countries represented this week
included Spain (.es), Seychelles (.sc), the Cocos
(Keeling) Islands (.cc), Tuvalu (.tv) and Austria
(.at). Here's a look at the complete Country Code Top 20 for the week
