Sedo's
Seven-Figure Sale of Chinese.com Leads the Charge in Another Banner
Week for Domain Names
Sedo.com
issued a brief press release yesterday (July 23) announcing they
had brokered the sale of Chinese.com for $1 million. The
price was actually higher than that. The deal was done in Euros - 810,001
of them to be exact - which at today's exchange rate translates to $1,120,008.
That ranks as the 5th highest sale reported so far in 2007 and the
6th one to crack the 7-figure mark.
Four six-figure blockbusters were also completed this week and
Sedo had one of those as well. That was the highest .info
sale ever reported - Travel.info at $116,000. That TLD
enjoyed its best week ever, placing four names on the all extension
leader board.
By Ron Jackson
NewYork.info tied for the 6th spot
on the elite list after being purchased by Jian Wang for $70,000
in a private sale escrowed by Moniker.com.
This is the third time NewYork.info has changed hands in the the
last three-and-a-half years. In January 2004 it went for $28,086
at Sedo. In September 2006 it traded again, that time for $46,392
at Moniker. Now, less than a year later, it escalates to $70,000.
Wang also bought Science.info this week in another private
transaction, paying $30,000 for that name. Just over two
years ago, Science.info was purchased on Ebay for just $3,272!
Back in the Land of Giants, Afternic.com/BuyDomains.com shook $300,000 from the beanstalk with #2 Resume.com.
The other two six-figure sales this week were just completed transactions
from last month's Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction - #3 Spices.com
at $220,000 and #4 Psychologists.com at $160,000.
With another large group of auction sales
being finalized this week we against expanded our usual Top 20 chart
to 30 positions. .Com piled up 22 of those chart entries.
There are only two ccTLDs on this week's list, but one of
them, CO.cc (Cocos Keeling Islands country code) was
among the seven biggest sales, going for $70,000 in a deal
escrowed at Moniker.com.
Sedo led all venues at the upper
end of the market with a dozen charted domains. Here is how all of the top sellers stacked up for the week ending Sunday, July

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
As if that weren't enough, there were ten more
five-figure sales this week just off the chart. Sedo had four of
those including Bildung.ch (Swiss country code meaning
"education" in German) and B2B.mobi at €10,000
($13,829) each. They added $12,000 for Jennings.com
and $10,000 for LowCostBusiness.com.
SnapNames.com
supplemented their Top 30 entries with Protek.com at $12,250
and SilkRoadOnline.com at $12,068. Afternic/BuyDomains
also piled on with Negotiable.com at $12,000 and EatFree.com
at $10,000. In another completed Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
auction sale, GroupRates.com changed hands for $11,770
and in a deal at Moniker's every day sales site, MormonChurch.org
found $10,000 in the collection plate.
.Com Supporting Cast
This week's Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
auction sales list also included BusinessAdvisors.com ($9,420),
DiscountPlans.com ($8,830) and EgyptianPyramids.com
($7,500). OrderThis.com delivered $5,890. TheCreditReport.com
scored $4,120 and two others; ChristianSpeedDating.com
and CheapTourist.com tacked on $2,950 each. ComputerRecyclers.com
returned $2,640 and DressWatch.com drew $2,445.
MRIScanners.com and iDisagree.com earned $2,360
each while FreePornFilms.com posted $2,323.
The AfternicDLS (Domain Listing Service)

Afternic.com and BuyDomains.com). Their roster included SFIN.com

pair at $5,850 apiece; DVDSource.com and CustomSystems.com.

Another six-domain group at $5,000 each
included ProgressiveMedical.com, FoodSlicer.com, ChristianCity.com,

For the second time in the past month, a
two-letter .cc domain has sold for $70,000. Last month it was
CC.cc. This week it was CO.cc. Both went in private
sales with Moniker.com handling the escrow. .CC is the
country code for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and rarely sees
sales at this level, regardless of how good the word or letter
combination is.
Two of the next three positions went to .TV
with runner-up Telmex.tv posting a very solid $25,000
sale at Sedo. This week's third five-figure ccTLD sale was Bildung.ch
(Swiss country code), a name that commanded $13,829 at
Sedo.
Germany's popular .de extension had
the most chart entries with seven. The best one in that group
was #5 Analysen.de
("analyses" in German) at $6,915. Other
countries making appearances this week included Great Britain (.co.uk),
.eu (European Union), .vu (Vanuatu) and .es (Spain).
