Cowboys.com
Ropes Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart
Cowboys.com has been transferred to
its new owners, an LLC group that snapped up the domain in the
recent Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East silent auction for $370,000.
That domain was part of a flood of completed auction sales that
dominate our new weekly top sellers chart.
By now just about everyone on the planet
has heard the Cowboys.com story - Sports Illustrated
magazine even wrote about it. It originally looked like the Dallas
Cowboys had bought the domain for $275,000 in the
Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. live auction but the NFL team then claimed
they thought they were bidding $275 instead of $275,000!
So Moniker put the domain back up for sale in a silent auction where
the winning group outbid several other new suitors to take the name
for $95,000 more than the football team could have had it for
just days before. As ESPN's Chris Berman would say - FUMBLE!!
By Ron Jackson
Sahar Sarid of the Recall Media
Group is a member of the LLC that bought Cowboys.com. He invited
his fellow co-owners to a party at his South Florida home
after the deal was closed and has posted a couple of videos from
that event at his Conceptualist.com
blog that we think you will enjoy.
To make room for all of the Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
auction sales we have expanded our usual Top 20
chart to 50 positions this week. Names from the auction
occupy 33 of those openings, including the top four and nine of the
first ten. That group included three more six-figure sales; CrosswordPuzzles.com
($210,000), CriminalLawyers.com ($195,000) and CaribbeanVacations.com
($130,000). Moniker also sold a two-domain lot that included SinglesOnline.com
and SolterosEnlinea.com for $125,000.
Sedo.com
also closed a six-figure sale this week with #5 Hosting.mobi
going for $101,000. That was one of 11 names Sedo put on the
Big Board, more than any venue other than the Moniker auction.
Several of Sedo's sales were made through their GreatDomains
premium auction site, including #11 MemoryCard.com at €29,000
($42,213).
.Mobi had a big week, placing seven
names on the elite list. Three country codes also made the
all-extension leader board while .Net, .Org and .Info
has one entry each. .Com again claimed the lion's share
of the list with 38 of the 51 chart entries (the extra spot resulted
from a tie for the final position). Here is how all of the top sellers stacked up for the
week ending Sunday, November 4:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were eight more

four more sales at this level including VTU.com ($10,189), Payment.mobi
($10,100), Pets.mobi ($10,000) and TGH.com, sold
at their GreatDomains site for $10,100.

Global Contenders
(.biz, .info, .mobi, .net & .org)
It was .mobi week on the Global Contenders
chart as the extension for mobile devices swept the first eight
positions on our expanded Top 30 chart. You've already seen all of
those on the all extension leader board earlier, including #1 Hosting.mobi
at $101,000. That ranks as the year's 6th biggest GC sale and
it is the second biggest .mobi sale (trailing only Sportsbook.mobi
at $129,800).
The first 14 names on the GC chart all appeared on
the all extension Top 50. The biggest sale in this category you
haven't seen yet is #15 AirlineTickets.org, sold in the
Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction for $8,500. In addition to
multiple names in the older .net and .org extensions, the chart
includes a pair of .infos, a .biz and a .pro.
Here's how all of the Global Contenders stacked up for the week ending

Country Codes
Our Country Code chart expands from 20 to 30
positions again this week but this time it wasn't because of a lot
of auction sales (in fact there is only one of those on the new
list). We made extra room simply because there were more four-figure
ccTLD sales than usual this week. You've already seen the first
three names on the list on the all extension leader board. Those
five-figure sales were backed up by #4 Hospitals.us (the lone
Moniker/T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction sale on the list) at $8,000
and #5 Action.eu (European Union ccTLD) at €5,000
($7,278). The latter name sold at Sedo, a venue that swept 24 of
the 30 chart entries.
Five of the top ten domains represented Great
Britain's .co.uk, including #6 Threesomes.co.uk at $6,743
and #7 BusinessHosting.co.uk at $6,261.
Germany's .de had the most chart entries overall with seven,
including an IDN (International Domain Name) at #10 - Computerzubehör.de
at $5,336.
America's .US country
code also fared well with five charted domains. That performance
comes on the heels of press releases this week from #1 registrar GoDaddy.com
and leading hosting company 1&1 that both said new .US
registrations were booming at their sites.
