Year's
Biggest Sale To Date Leads the Weekly Domain Sales Parade
Illinois data recovery company ESS Data
Recovery purchased DataRecovery.com for $1,659,000 this
week in the largest domain
sale reported thus far in 2008. It was also the year's
second 7-figure sale, joining Cruises.co.uk ($1,099,798) at
that lofty level. There were also a pair of six-figure sales this
week. Florida-based Elysium Internet, Inc. purchased Auditors.com
for $125,000 in a private transaction and Skyport.com
produced $101,000 at Sedo.com.
There were 20 solid five-figure sales and
five other names that sold for $25,000 and up at the AfternicDLS
all would have charted had they not been subject to non-disclosure
agreements.
.Com enjoyed its usual chart
dominance taking of 15 of 20 positions but .net also has a
good week, putting three names in the first ten and taking four
chart entries overall.
By Ron Jackson
#6 Holland.net led the way for that
extension, selling for $27,500 at SnapNames.
#8 (tie) Casino777.net followed after being sold by DomainNameCatalog.com
via Sedo for $20,000.
There was also one ccTLD on the Big
Board. DotcomAgency.com
sold #14 InternetBusiness.co.uk (Great Britain's
country code) for £7,500 ($14,833). Dotcom Agency's Ian
Andrew told us that was the company's first .co.uk sale.
Sedo and SnapNames each placed seven names
on the elite list to lead all venues. Sedo sold #18 AC360.com
for £6,500 ($12,901) for Shop360.com,
a site that specializes in names with the "360"
suffix.

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
There were three more five-figure sales just off
the chart. Stallions.com rustled up $12,000 at

chart, almost doubling the $8,400 turned in by Mylan.de

(International Domain Names) led by #3 Südsee.de sold at
Sedo for €5,110 ($7,769). Sedo traditionally dominates the
