Invest.com
Rings Up Over $1 Million to Top All Sales Reported Over the Past Two
Weeks
We were away covering the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
New York conference so there was no domain sales report last
week. This week we will bring you completely back up to speed
by covering all of the notable sales reported since our last column
Sept. 16. We have also doubled the length of all three charts, from
20 to 40 positions, to accommodate the top sales from the expanded
data pool that we will be wading through this time out.
There is no doubt about the premier
domain - that's Invest.com - a name that rang up a hefty $1,015,000
through Sedo's GreatDomains.
That was the first seven-figure sale reported since the first
quarter of this year. The completion of this transaction and the $4
million in live auction sales at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. last week helped
to close out the third quarter of 2008 on a positive note (we will
have more details on the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auctions and all show events
in our comprehensive conference review article that is scheduled for
publication this coming weekend).

After that million dollar sale at the top
of the chart, the rest of the headliners dropped back into the five
figure range, but there were 37 of those to report, led by a very
strong .net sale, #2 CoiffureFemme.net ("women's
hairstyle" in French) at 55,000 ($77,550). Sedosold that domain and went on to claim 15 of the 42 chart
entries, more than any other venue (the extra two positions resulted
from a three-way tie for the final spot on the Big Board).
Moniker
had a hand in eight sales, with #3 EstrellaDigital.com
("star digital" in Spanish) heading their roster at $70,326. The AfternicDLS
also piled up eight chart entries en route to another solid week.
While .com enjoyed its usual chart dominance, five non .com Global
Contenders and five ccTLDs also managed to crash the all
extension leader board. The Global Contenders were represented by a
pair of .nets, a .org, a .mobi and a .info.
The country codes included a pair of German domains (.de)
and one each from France (.fr), Switzerland (.ch) and
the European Union (.eu).
Two of those ccTLDs soared all the way into
to top ten with #8 (tie) Allgemeine.de ("general" in German) commanding 14,000
($19,740) and #10 Rachat-de-Credit.fr ("repurchase of credit" in French) banking 13,500
($19,035) - quite a nice sum for a double hyphenated
country code domain. Europeans tend to be less averse to hyphens
than domain buyers in the U.S. are.
Here is how all of the top sellers stacked up for the
two week period ending Sunday, September 28:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
As always, there were hundreds of solid four figure
sales over the past fortnight. Sedo had the top sale in the .com
supporting cast with GreenSUV.com at $9,500. Zozo.com
added $8,900, MurrellsInlet.com drew $7,785 and
LaptopInfo.com fetched $7,500.
SaveMyLinks.com located $7,191, AffordIt.com

tallied $6,500 and three others; ComTrade.com, Equinity.com
and SportsPowers.com produced $6,000 each. Sedo had 23 more

Code chart all hit five figures and all earned spots on the all
extension leader board you saw earlier. The top ccTLD sale you
haven't seen yet is #6 PWC.com.au, an Australian
domain, sold by NetFleet.com.au
for the equivalent of $8,293. Close behind were PastaHut.co.uk
($8,010) and ElNacional.com.ve ("The National"
in Spanish - a Venezuelan ccTLD)
at $8,000. The latter two were both sold by Sedo who always
dominates the country code chart.
As we did with the all extension and Global
Contenders charts, we have expanded the ccTLD leader board from 20
to 40 positions this week since we are covering two weeks worth of
data rather than just one. Germany's popular .de
extension claimed the most chart entries with 15. If any of the
extensions on the chart are unfamiliar to you, you can look up they
country they are associated with here.
Here is how all of the
country code top sellers stacked
up for the two weeks ending September 28:
