GreatDomains
Auction Sales and Dominate This Week's Expanded Leader Board
Sedo's GreatDomains.com
premium auction site runs a week long sale once a month. A fresh
batch of completed transactions from that high end venue dominates
this week's all extension Top 40 sales chart (it actually
wound up being 41 due to a tie for the final position). As we always do
when a wave of special event sales comes in, we doubled the length
of the usual 20-position all-extension leader board to insure
results from the everyday venues are not overlooked.
GreatDomains piled 14 chart entries,
including the number 1 sale and four of the top five. Their parent
company, Sedo.com,
also flexed their muscles at their everyday platform and actually
wound up with even more chart entries overall with 19. That gave the GreatDomains/Sedo
juggernaut 33 of the 41 listed domains - a stunning outing by any
standard.
The flagbearer for GreatDomains was Crab.com,
a domain that went for $92,000 to take the
pole position on the elite list. Sedo's string of hits from their main site
got started with #2 JuegosFlash.com
("flash games" in Spanish) at €25,000 ($35,250).
They also generated four of the five country code sales on the
Top 40, leading that category with #6 Schauspiel.de
("pageant" in German) at €20,000 ($28,200). MyID.ca
accounted for the lone non-Sedo ccTLD sale on the Big Board by selling
#10 Lesbian.ca for $20,400.

The AfternicDLS
had a trio of chart entries that included two of the three non .com
global TLDs on the Top 40; #7 (tie) Adware.net at $25,000
and #18 (tie) NursingSchools.org at $15,000.
The only other venue with multiple chart
entries was Moniker.com
who just closed three sales from their live auction at T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
New York. That trio was led by #18 (tie) AncientArt.com
at $15,000. .Com rolled up 33 of the 41 chart entries
in a powerhouse performance from the world's most popular extension.
Here is how all of the
leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, December 14:

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the
accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
Forthe many newcomers entering the domain
industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market.
If you do not understand why specific domain names command the
prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases.
We highly recommend that you do some basic research beforeyou buyanything! As a starting point we have
built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
