SnapNames Completes One of the Year's 5 Biggest Sales - 2nd Biggest Non .Com gTLD Sale Also Reported Along With a Top 5 ccTLD Sale

SnapNames auctioned off Screensavers.com in their Moniker/SnapNames March Showcase auction and the $335,000 deal was completed this week to take the pole position on our weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.  This sale also ranks as the fifth biggest sale reported so far in 2010.

The Year to Date Country Code and Global Contenders (non .com gTLDs) charts also welcomed new members to their top fives this week. Sedo's $87,049 sale of Pakistan.de (German ccTLD) ranks #3 on the weekly all extension leader board and has moved into the #5 spot on the YTD Country Code list (second chart on this page). Sedo also sold DUIAttorney.org for $35,000 to take the #5 spot on this week's Big Board and an even higher position - #2 - on the YTD Global Contenders chart (third chart on this page).

Those sales, along with a six-figure .com sale - #2 DolceVita.com at $120,000, helped Sedo sweep 15 of the 21 entries on the weekly all extension elite list (the extra position resulted from a three-way tie for the final chart entry).

By Ron Jackson

Sedo also accounted for five of the six ccTLD sales that earned spots on the Big Board, including one of the two that reached the upper half of the chart, #10 Plenty.at (Austrian country code) at $23,741. Moniker broke Sedo's ccTLD monopolu by completing the $16,000 sale of #12 Gaming.ca (Canadian country code), a name they had auctioned off in their DOMAINfest Global live auction.

Moniker also had a huge website sale this week, handling a $328,023 transaction for FreeDatingUSA.com.

The only venue other than Sedo to claim multiple chart entries was the AfternicDLS. They hit the trifecta with a trio of names led by #16 RM2.com at $12,000

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 21:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

One of the year's five biggest country code sales helped the ccTLDs post still another outstanding week. As we told you in the all extension section at the top of this report, the $87,049 sale of Pakistan.de at Sedo ranks #5 on the ccTLD year-to-date leader board (2nd chart on this page). That price also makes it #1 on our new weekly ccTLD Top 20 Chart, followed by the five other five-figure country code sales that also made the all extension Top 20 you saw earlier.

The highest ccTLD sales you haven't see yet are a trio of domains tied for the #7 position at $6,650 each; Megapreis.de, Springkussen.nl and Zuno.ro. Those domains represent Germany, the Netherlands and Romania respectively.

Sedo accounted for all three of those sales and went on to sweep 18 of the 22 chart positions (the extra spots resulted from a four-way tie for the final position). Sedo's chart roster included a trio of IDNs, led by #16 Bücher.eu at $3,731.

Global Contenders (Non .com gTLDs: .biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .pro & .tel)

The non .com Global Contenders had only one five-figure sale this week (and only five have been reported over the past three weeks), however this one was a big one. As we noted earlier DUIAttorney.org, sold at Sedo for $35,000, now ranks as the second biggest sale year to date in this category (third chart on the page).

The top GC sale you haven't seen yet is #2 FinancialPlanners.net, also sold by Sedo for $8,500. Sedo went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart entries. The AfternicDLS claimed five positions on the new GC Top 20 Chart led by #3 Intext.net at $6,400

That left just one spot that went to a private sale in which #12 (tie) SMB.biz changed hands for $4,000
