6-Figure 2-Letter .Com Sale Gives Sedo Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart

Sedo secured the top spot on this week's domain sales chart with their $101,000 sale of JF.com. With one week to go in the 2010 sales season, that is the 82nd publicly reported sale of six figures or more this year. Sedo went on to sweep 13 of the 20 entries on our new weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.

The runner-up spot on the Big Board went to a big .CA (Canadian country code) sale. That was Coupon.ca, a domain that changed hands for $75,600 through ExcellentDomains.ca. Five more country code domains made the elite list with Sedo accounting for all of those, including a pair that joined Coupon.ca in the top ten; #5 OfficeChairs.co.uk at $27,143 and #7 Finanzen.ch at $24,890.

Sedo also served up all three of the non .com gTLDs that earned places on the leader board. That group was led by #6 Rentenversicherung.net ("annuity insurance" in German) at $25,545. #11 LaptopGiving.org kicked off the second half of the chart at $21,000.

By Ron Jackson

The .coms still had the most chart entries with 11 and the AfternicDLS piled up five of those including #3 WEHR.com ($73,700) and #4 OnlineBanks.com ($30,000)

Only one other venue made an appearance among the top 20 sellers this week - that was MostWantedDomains.com who sold #12 SmokeBreak.com for an even $20,000. As most of  your know, MostWantedDomains is run by domain industry veteran and well-known blogger Michael Berkens.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 26:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
