The Year's 7th Reported Six-Figure Sale Sets the Pace on This Week's Domain Sales Chart

Blockbuster sales have been scarce so far this year. With the opening quarter of 2011 drawing to a close, only seven six-figure sales have been reported in the new year. The latest of those came this week when Sedo closed a $100,000 deal for XXXBook.com. Sedo also registered the biggest non .com gTLD sale of the year with #2 Gold.net going for £50,000 ($81,500). #3 Tada.fr (French ccTLD) added still another feather to the Sedo cap as the week's largest country code sale ($28,200).

Sedo went on to sweep five of the first six positions and 12 of 20 overall on our new all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Their roster included two more ccTLDs; #5 (tie) Furniture.tv at $24,000 and #19 Gastro-Bedarf.de at $11,985.

Sedo's roster also featured four of the five non .com gTLDs on the elite list including #11 Casinos.biz at $19,000. GoDaddy Auctions had the one non .com gTLD that escaped Sedo's grasp. That was #13 (tie) AUI.net at $18,000.

The AfternicDLS also continued to reap dividends from their ever expanding domain listing service. They put three names on the Big Board with two of those reaching the top ten; #7 (tie) Sincerely.com at $20,000 and #9 TView.com at $19,550

Michael Berkens's MostWantedDomains.com also rang up multiple chart entries, hitting the Daily Double with #7 (tie) LoveMyBody.com at $20,000 and #16 FreeWarranty.com at $15,000

In other notable sales, #4 Shana.com changed hands for $25,439 in a private transaction that helped the .coms take 12 of the 20 places. .Info also had an impressive sale with #20 WarehouseFinder.info fetching $11,280.

Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 20:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
