Kate Buckley Bags Another Big Sale - One of Two Six-Figure Transactions That Top Our Latest Leader Board

Editor's Note: The first paragraph below includes an updated release time for the next sales column. I originally planned to do one Friday (Jan. 13) and another Wednesday (Jan. 18). Instead we will combine those into a single double-length column for Wednesday which is our usual release day.

I hope you all had a great holiday season! This is our first time together since before Christmas as the last sales column was on Dec. 21. There was no report Dec. 28 because the offices of many of our sales data suppliers were closed through New Year's Day and none January 4 because my wife and I were away on a holiday cruise. So, with some catching up to do, I will start this double length report that will close out the 2016 sales season. Then I will come back with another double length report next week to be released Wednesday evening (January 18) that will cover the first two weeks of 2017.

The biggest kudos this week go to Kate Buckley of Buckley Media Group (BMG) for closing a chart topping $300,000 sale of Advance.com to Advance Publications, Inc., a privately held American media company that counts Condé Nast among its holdings. You might recall that last spring Kate sold Rate.com for the Castello Brothers for $725,000, so she now has two of the 20 biggest sales reported in the past year (you can see our final 2016 Top 100 Chart here).

By Ron Jackson

Kate Buckley

Kate, who is BMG's Principal/Founder, said, “It was clear to me from the beginning that Advance.com was the perfect domain name for Advance Publications. I believe it is essential for a company to own the name that consumers will intuitively associate with their brand.”

The Advance.com sale wasn't the only news Kate had for us. She also revealed that she brokered the October 2013 sale of LagunaBeach.com to a Southern California-based media company for $600,000. That deal was under an NDA but both buyers and sellers  agreed to lift the non-disclosure agreement (that will allow us to retroactively add the sale to our 2013 Top 100 Chart where it will rank among that year's  top 10 sales). Buckley sold the domain for the Castello Brothers along with a marketing blueprint and business plan she created. The Buckley Media Group then consulted on the implementation of that strategy post-sale.

Back to the present, Sedo rang up another six-figure sale, banking $133,000 for TCP.com to take the runner-up spot on our all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. They filled two of the next three slots as well with #3 Cave.com at $61,450 and #5 T4.com at $44,000. Sandwiched in between was a $50,000 private sale of #4 RFG.com

Sedo went on to pile up nine chart entries overall while NameJet claimed six, including #6 eLuxury.com at $35,200. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.
