Spring Continues to Bring a Steady Stream of Impressive Domain Sales - 3 More Reach 6 Figures

Spring is quickly becoming my favorite season - at least this year. We had a near flood of domain sales data come in this week including three more six-figures sales (making 10 reported in the past three weeks). The chart-topper came from industry pioneer Garry Chernoff who banked $200,000 for LEV.com in a deal handled by DomainAgents.com

Two even shorter .com domains were close behind on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart with James Booth's BQDN.com having a hand in both of those. James teamed up with Sharjil Saleem to co-broker #2 D8.com at $196,500 and also claimed the #3 spot with his $117,000 sale of W6.com

NameJet, who released all of their March sales this week, rounded out the first five with yet another short .com - FSF.com - at $47,000 and HandJob.com at $40,000. They went on to fill 13 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot resulting from a tie for the final position).

By Ron Jackson

.Coms swept 18 places, including Sedo's $36,000 sale of #6 Susen.com. Sedo also accounted for one of the three non .com sales on the Big Board after moving #17 ProShop.at, a ccTLD, at $17,923. NameJet sold another country code domain - #16 LOL.tv at $18,000 - and also posted the lone non .com gTLD sale - #18 Huangguan.net at $16,600

Chart honors also went to Michael Mann's DomainMarket where #14 GulfBrokers.com went for $19,880. Mann told us he hand registered that domain for $7 in 2011!

Some other important sales news broke this week. As you may have heard, Wal-Mart acquired the category killing Shoes.com domain name but the price paid wasn't known until Elliot Silver at DomainInvesting.com and George Kirikos worked together to dig out the details of what turned out to be a $9 million deal. George, who has uncovered countless previously unreported major domain sales by poring over SEC and court documents, posted links to bankruptcy court filings that revealed how much money changed hands. George noted that some minor domain names, minor TMs and social media accounts of minimal value were included in the transaction. That prevents us from charting it as a single domain sale but there is little doubt Wal-Mart would have paid the full $9 million for the Shoes.com domain alone.

At that price Shoes.com would rank as the 4th highest sale ever reported. Due to the size of the deal and the relatively small value of the IP assets that came with the name, I've added a special note to our All-Time Top 20 Domain Sales page about this transaction as it is indeed a historic one. Thanks to George and Elliot for bringing it to light.

Now back to this week's chart. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, April 9, 2017:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by the two sales you saw on the all extension leader board above - LOL.tv ($18,000) and ProShop.at ($17,923). In another five-figure sale Sedo sold TMHCC.co.uk for $12,500 and right behind, at #4 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart, is the German version of the same domain - TMHCC.de - at $8,560.

Sedo rounded out the first five with Pizzeria.it at $8,025 and they went on to sweep 15 of the 20 chart entries. NameJet and Golem.eu each had two charted sales and GoDaddy has one, moving #10 Gives.co for $5,000

In a close race among extensions, Austria's .at and Germany's .de tied with three chart entries each. In a week when 14 different TLDs earned spots on the leader board the only other ones with multiple chart entries were .tv and .it with two apiece.
