Two of the Year's Six Biggest Domain Sales Top This Week's Chart Led by a $2 Million Blockbuster

A lot happened in the domain aftermarket while I was away last week covering the Domaining Europe conference in Berlin. The second biggest sale of the year to date was announced soon after I arrived in Europe and shortly after I got home this week I got word of another blockbuster (being announced for the first time in this column) that ranks among 2017's top six sales. Starfire Holdings Broker Ali Zandi's $2 million sale of Freedom.com was the former and the latter was a $550,000 sale of Place.com made by RightOfTheDot.com with help from GoDaddy's Domain Buy Service

Zandi's big sale is second only to the $2.89 million sale of Fly.com that we reported earlier this month. Ali told me, "This one took a few months to complete. After reaching out to the buyer and presenting the price, they went dark. A few weeks later, I was contacted by Slade Michalec of Lumis.com - turns out, the buyer went dark and hired him as an acquisition broker. Slade and Lumis.com were a big help in representing the buy side." Shortly after the sale was announced, Ali did a video interview with Michael Cyger at DomainSherpa.com detailing how everything went down. You can view that here

We also just got the last batch of completed domain sales from the RightOfTheDot.com/NameJet NamesCon domain auction this week. One of those sales filled the #3 slot on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart - Fort.com at $66,500.

Sedo rounded out the first five with #4 WHX.com at $30,999 and #5 LEEM.com at $30,000.  They went on to pile up 11 chart entries overall. Sedo's haul included all three of the non .com gTLDs on the elite list, a trio led by #8 Incite.org at $20,250. Sedo also had one of the three ccTLDs that made the Big Board - #18 (tie) Growbox.de at $11,200. The other two were Nidoma.com's $13,664 sale of #14 Cataratta.it and their $10,080 sale of #20 Trucco.it.

The .coms still dominated though, sweeping 14 of 20 chart entries. The .com cause was helped by two chart entries from Michael Mann's DomainMarket.com - #7 Unifon.com at $24,888 and #15 CurrencyCharts.com at $12,500. Mann told me he originally purchased those names for $250 apiece.

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.
