A Half Dozen Six-Figure Domain Sales Including #1 ccTLD Sale of  Year-to-Date Top Our Latest Chart

I'm back from a great NamesCon Global conference in Austin, Texas and ready to bring you up to date on all of the notable domain sales reported since our last report on August 17. The bi-weekly report normally due August 31 had to be delayed until I got back, sifted through the 1,000+ photos we shot during the show and  published a new Cover Story about this landmark event.  After waiting over two-and-a-half years to meet in person again due to the pandemic, I wanted to take the time necessary to recognize as many of the people who made this show happen (attendees, speakers, sponsors and organizers) as I possibly could.

Thank you for waiting patiently for me to get the sales column schedule back on track (every other Wednesday evening with the next one coming September 21)! The good news is I have three weeks worth of data to share with you now including a lot of terrific sales!

The first thing to tell you about is a BIG historic domain sale that came to light while I was away - one of the 20 biggest cash sales ever publicly reported. I learned about it on the first day of NamesCon when Robbie Ferguson sent me a link to his post on Robbie's Blog that revealed details of a July 15, 2021 sale of AV.com. Robbie had learned that the price paid was £3,013,000 which equals $4,176,922 at the exchange rate that was in effect at the time of the sale. That made AV.com the #1 sale of 2021 and we have placed it in that position on the 2021 Top 100 Sales Chart in our Domain Sales Archive. We have also added it to our All-Top 20 Cash Sales Chart (link above) where it ranks #17.

There are also interesting stories behind some of the half dozen other 6-figure sales that headline our latest all-extension Top 20 Sales Chart, a leader board made up of 2022 sales reported over the past three weeks. Those start with #1 CognitiveAutomation.com at $260,000. We first reported this sale by Joseph Ciprut was in progress under an installment plan two years ago. The deal originally called for a total of $300,000 in payments but Joseph received an offer from the buyer to close the deal early in return for reducing the price to $260,000 and he accepted. Joseph sent me the closing documentation right before NamesCon and I was happy to see him again at the show where he understandably had a big smile on his face!

In mid-August Elliot Silver at DomainInvesting.com reported #2 Medal.com had been sold in an expired domain auction for $185,728 and that sale has since closed clearing the way for us to chart it.

Medal.com is closely followed by two more one-word domains that went for $175,000 each to tie for #3. One is Blunt.com (a sale I first heard about from Robbie in that same email telling me about AV.com). The sale price to Brent Oxley was first reported as $165,000 but that was the net amount the seller received. I later got documentation from the broker, Tony Adams at HQBrokerage.com, that showed the buyer paid $175,000 for the domain with Escrow.com then sending the seller and broker their respective shares).

The other one at $175,000 is Rake.com, brokered by Arif Sengoren at SecretBrokerage.com. An interesting thing about this sale is that Arif ran into a common problem - the buyer wanted to pay in crypto currency but the seller wanted their money in US $. Arif found a solution by forming a partnership with CryptoExchange.com that allowed everyone to get what they wanted and close the deal. Arif used the same process to close two more of the top ten sales on the new chart - #7 Hot.co.uk at $99,500 and #10 (tie) Stretcher.com at $35,000.

The next six-figure sale on the Big Board has its own claim to fame. #5 Vacanze.it ("holidays" in Italian) is, at $170,000, the biggest ccTLD sale of the year to date (you can see all of the YTD Top 100 Charts - all extension, ccTLDs and non .com gTLDs - here). The Vacanze.it sale was brokered by Marco Schiappacassa at WebInvest.it

Sedo also rang the six-figure bell with a nice $110,000 sale of Betify.com. It turned out they were just getting started with that one as they went on to pile up eight entries on the elite list, including two more in the top ten. The .coms went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart entries. Andrew Gruff at Nametra.com aided the .com cause with his $54,900 sale of Temoo.com through Dan.com.

The ccTLDs and non .com gTLDs claimed three spots apiece.  Swetha.xyz posted the biggest sale in the latter category with #9 Keys.xyz at $50,000. The others were #15 Equation.org at $26,250 via Sedo and #19 Capital.club at $18,000 through GoDaddy.

The country code trio, led by Vacanze.it and Hot.co.uk, was rounded out with a $16,500 sale of #20 GiftCard.in by Paul Singh at Premium.in.
