Uptick in Domain Sales Brings Some Holiday Cheer After Thanksgiving Break

America's four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend (that stretches from Thursday through the weekend) is typically a slow time for domain sales but we still saw some tastier dishes on the aftermarket banquet table than we've been seeing recently. Acquire.com took the lead role in the rebound after James Iles established that the price paid for the domain last month was $240,020, giving it the top spot on our latest bi-weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. That number also put Acquire.com in the top quarter of our year-to-date Top 100 Sales Chart.

The number two spot goes to a nice ccTLD

sale that India's Hit Media made through Sedo earlier this year that has just now come to light. In that one TEZ.in changed hands for $62,744 and is now being used as the home of a new tech lifestyle website.

While turkey was on many American tables last week I wouldn't be surprised if industry veteran Mike Mann was having duck instead, especially after selling #3 MotherDuck.com for $60,000 on his DomainMarket.com platform.

A pair of solid .xyz sales from the TLD's sales queen - Swetha Yenugula - rounded out the first five. Swetha booked $40,000 apiece for Chroma.xyz and Lore.xyz. She added a third chart entry with #12 Mantle.xyz at $23,420

.Coms swept the next three spots and 13 of 20 places overall including Dean Phillips's $24,888 sale of BufferedETF's.com via Afternic. The ccTLDs filled four slots with #9 WMX.co ($25,000 at Buzzoo Domains), #14 Verkaufen.de ($20,600 at Sedo) and #19 NGE.ca ($14,432 at ExcellentDomains.ca) joining TEZ.in on the elite list. The non .com gTLDs locked down the remaining three positions - all claimed by Swetha's trio of .xyx sales.

Considering that none of the venues that report sales monthly is represented this week, this is an encouraging sample of recent sale prices. We will still fall far short of the number of high end sales we saw last year, but maybe Santa will bring some pleasant surprises for domain sellers as we head down the home stretch in December.

The ccTLDs had another nice outing with a half-dozen five-figure sales for the second report in a row. In addition to the four you saw on the all extension Top 20 Chart above, led by that big TEZ.in sale, Sedo's sale of #5 Energy.tv added $12,900 to our latest  Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart and Ilze Kaulins-Plaskacz at ExcellentDomains.ca tacked on another $11,300 with #6 CanadaHockey.ca. Ilze wound up with four of the top ten sales with a quartet of strong Canadian domains.

Of course, when you talk about ccTLD sales you always end up talking about Sedo who has dominated the category for the past 20 years. They did so again this week, piling up 15 of the 20 chart entries including #7 Max.ae at $9,999 and #10 FixMe.de at $7,725.

It was also a big week for 3-letter domain sales with eight of the chart entries coming from that group. Here is how the top ccTLD sales stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022:
