2023 Domain Sales Remain on Fast Track with a Million $ Trio Topping Our Latest Chart

In the glory days of Motown, the Four Tops had a big hit with "It's the Same Old Song." The phrase has always had a negative connotation but if the domain aftermarket keeps playing the same tune it played in the first two months of this new year, I don't think anyone is going to get tired of it.

Three more very solid six-figure sales - totaling more than $1 million - headline our latest bi-weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. A sale we just told you about in our Lowdown section yesterday (February 28) - Giveaway.com at $400,000 via Sedo - set the pace. Sedo also handled the #2 sale of PFP.com at $353,000 for seller K-Ventures (one we also first reported in The Lowdown early last week).

The Million Dollar trio at the top was completed with Kate Buckley's $303,295 sale of Tactic.com. The Buckley Media Founder let us know that the innovative digital asset accounting firm that acquired the domain completed their payment plan to close out escrow, but what they accomplished while paying for the name was a story in itself.

Kate told us, "The startup did great things with that name. Not only did they use it to build a killer brand, but they were acquired by Tax Bit just 11 months later! It was a meteoric rise for a company to go from founding in 2021, two rounds of funding in 2022, then acquisition in 2023. Getting the .com was a great use of their capital."  Kate also noted that this sale is a continuation of the boom she experienced in 2022 when she saw her already healthy business triple its revenue.

In addition to being the top three sales on the new chart, this power trio now accounts for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th biggest reported sales of the year to date. The top sale remains Above.com's $3 million sale of Help.com that started the year off with a bang in the first week of 2023.

The .coms went on to sweep 14 of the 20 chart entries including a $12,999 sale of #20 RollingCasino.com that had several different hands in the mix. Namoxy.com sold the name through a Sedo listing but GoDaddy's brokerage service also had a role as the buyer used them to make the acquisition.

While the .coms romped, the non .com gTLDs also celebrated with their strongest outing of the year, shaking off a slow start to claim five spots on the Big Board. They were led by four of the five biggest sales this group has produced this year. The headliner was Swetha.xyz's $74,888 sale of Socrates.xyz through Sedo. Sedo also sold #8 Cloak.net for LegalBrandMarketing.com, giving the non .com gTLDs a second name on the top half of the honor roll at $29,888.

The ccTLDs racked up four five-figure sales but only one of those reached the all extension Top 20 - Sedo's $26,500 sale of #9 QM.de
