April
wound up being - literally - an iconic month for the
domain aftermarket. That was thanks to the eye-popping $12
million sale of Icon.com that we
told you about April 24th. Andrew Miller at
Hilco
Digital Assets and buyer's representative Lumis.com
worked together to help Icon
Founder Kennan Davison acquire that premier asset in
the biggest publicly reported sale of the year
to date (and one of the biggest of all
time).
It
wasn't just Icon.com either. Veteran broker John Mauriello
at DomainAssets.com
assisted in selling XBT.com for over
$3 million. We won't be able to chart it yet
because the exact price
|

|
has
not been released but that may still happen. Earlier this
week, Mine.com was sold for $680,000 in a DropCatch
expired domain auction. At this writing the WhoIs record
showed the domain was still pending delivery but it will
likely be finished and eligible to chart in our next report.
Now that so
many aftermarket platforms are making Lease to Own
deals easy to do, those are also producing fruit. In fact Fruits.co
just announced a $502,400 12-month LTO transaction for TXT.com.
Of course, we don't chart LTOs until they have been completed
and the domain transferred to the new owner. The interesting
thing about this one is the short term for that much money.
That is a good thing because the buyer has more skin the
game right off the bat and is less likely to default as
sometimes happens in deals that are strung out for years with
low monthly payments. While
we are waiting for more information to chart some of these big
sales, others have now been completed and have taken up residence
on our latest bi-weekly all-extension Top 20 Sales Chart.
Those include another six-figure sale - #2 Bet55.com
that came in at $145,000 through SnapNames.
|
A big ccTLD
sale claimed the #3 slot. That was Nameshift's
$85,500 sale of Fietsen.nl ("bicycles" in
Dutch). The country code domains went on to have another great
outing taking eight chart entries overall, including another
one on the top five - an $80,000 sale of #5 Shine.co
that Joshua Schoen made via Afternic.
Of, course when you talk about big ccTLD sales, .ai is
always in the mix and that was the case again with five of
them landing on the leader board, led by #6 Virtuoso.ai
at $70,000 through Namecheap's newly opened Spaceship
Seller Hub.
The .coms
still rolled up the most entries - taking 12 of 22 spots (the
extra positions resulted from a three-way tie for the final
position). LegalBrandMarketing
accounted for three of those .coms, including #4 Northridge.com
at $82,500. Braden Pollock's company also posted
the biggest non .com gTLD sale, #14 A.capital at
$30,000. Sedo
piled up five of the .com sales (including #7 Raju.com
at $68,000) and also scored with a .org, #20
(tie) IMG.org at $20,000. The .coms also
got a top ten boost from Digiventures
Media Group's $50,000 sale of #9 AICandy.com
through GoDaddy.

Country
Codes
Since we list all
five-figure and higher sales in our all extension section above,
you've often seen the top 10 ccTLD sales before you even get to this
section. Such was the case against this week when 11 country
codes domains reached five figures, led by Nameshift's
chart-topper, Fietsen.nl at $85,500. It didn't use
to be this way but with consistently strong .ai sales and
several other country code TLDs gaining ground it is becoming the
norm.
The biggest sales in this
category that you haven't seen yet are a pair from Sedo - #12 PeoplePension.co.uk
at $9,500 and #13 Zazzle.jp at $9,000. We haven't
seen many .jp (Japan's ccTLD) sales but Sedo had two this time
out - also scoring with #14 Mixam.jp at $8,999.

the top ccTLDs stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, April

Non .com gTLDs
The non .com
gTLDs muscled up with a half dozen five-figure sales this
time out. LegalBrandMarketing led the way on our
latest Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart with A.capital
at $30,000. SnapNames had the biggest sales in this
group that you haven't seen yet with #7 UNEP.net at $9,916
and #8 PrintingMuseum.org at $9,250.
This category used to be
confined to a dual between legacy TLDs .net and .org but
these days .org has been the consistent winner, as was the case
again this time out with that TLD sweeping 11 chart entries
overall (the .nets have five). There are also many weeks when new
gTLDs take over a big chunk of the chart. Their overall numbers
weren't high this week but they did claim two of the top three sales
to maintain some bragging rights of their own.

.com gTLD leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending
