The Storm Before the Calm - A Flash Flood of High End Domain Sales Receded With the Arrival of Holiday Season

In our previous bi-weekly report we were trumpeting an unprecedented wave of five and six-figure domain sales that flooded our charts. Now, just two weeks later, the landscape looks completely different with only one publicly reported six-figure sale on  our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart and just two five-figure sales above $50,000 (last time out the Top 20 sales averaged $118,000 each)! Does that mean the sky has suddenly fallen? No, it means holiday season is here.

While that is a great thing for retailers who sell gifts, it's not so good for the domain business (not many URLs are found in Christmas stockings). With America's four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend

right in the middle of the latest reporting, most of the business people who buy domains were out of the office in the U.S. In turn, fewer reports about domains that did sell were sent out. That should set us for a tidy rebound in our next report.

Turning our attention to what was reported, there are still a lot of sales that I'm sure many of you would have been happy to make, especially the one at the top, Sedo's $131,670 sale of Diffs.com. In computing, diffs are command-line utilities that show changes between two files or directories, so the name is a perfect fit for a diff rendering library developed by The Pierre Company. James Booth at DomainBooth.com completed a one-two punch at the top for the .coms after selling CocoBet.com for $75,000 through Atom.com

The .coms went on to sweep eight of the top ten entries and 15 of 21 overall (the extra spot resulting from a tie for the final position). Mike Mann's DomainMarket.com provided a lot of the .com firepower with five charted sales, including two in the top ten. #5 LuxuryLock.com led the Team Mann's barrage at $49,888.

The non .com gTLDs were still able to put their stamp on the honor roll though with a $65,000 sale of #3 Online.jobs made through DomainAgents.com and a $50,000 sale of ALA.xyz booked by Sedo. Sedo made it a trio by also selling #20 (tie) Hyper.org for $15,000.

The ccTLDs claimed three spots on the elite list as well with Sedo's $20,300 sale of #11 (tie) Apostar.pt (Portuguese for "bet") leading the charge for the country code crew. Backup came from a $16,250 sale of #16 PTSD.ai through Tweeted/Discovr.ai and yet another Sedo sale, #18 (tie) SGE.eu at $15,080.

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.
