Voodoo.com Casts a $300,000 Spell to Claim the Top Spot on This Week's Domain Sales Chart

The $300,000 sale of Voodoo.com was completed this week allowing that domain to ascend to the #1 spot on our weekly Top 20 Chart. The name had been auctioned off by Aftermarket.com at the Domainer Mardi Gras conference in February and just closed.

Sedo also booked a six-figure sale, banking €85,000 ($113,050) for a Spanish ccTLD domain, Motor.es. That is the second highest country code sale reported so far this year. Sedo had a blockbuster week overall, claiming eight of the first ten spots on the Big Board and 14 of 20 entries overall.

Other than Aftermarket.com's #1 sale, the only other venue represented in the first ten was NameJet.com who sold #5 GoldPoker.com for $30,100. They added two more on the second half of the chart.

By Ron Jackson

Country code domains continue to show a lot of strength as four ccTLDs earned positions on the all extension leader board, including a pair of French .fr names in the top ten; GuidePoker.fr ($26,600) and Amateurs.fr ($15,295). Both of those names were sold at Sedo.

.Com swept all of the other positions, leaving the non .com Global TLDs shut out for the second week in a row. It has been a slow year for the non .com gTLDs which have been eclipsed by surging ccTLDs.

Here is how all of the leaders stack up for the week ending Sunday, March 29:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

The country codes logged still another big week with a six-figure blockbuster and five more that cracked the five-figure barrier. The $113,050 sale of Motor.es (Spain's ccTLD) at Sedo is the year's second biggest country code sale (trailing only FlatRate.de at $200,000).

You saw all of the five-figure ccTLD sales on the all extension leader board at the top of this report. The highest sale you haven't seen yet is a Spanish IDN, Mamá.es, that ranks #7 after going for $7,500 at Sedo.

Germany's .de had more entries than any other extension with 9, including a second IDN in the first ten - Erdwärme24.de ("geothermal heating 24" in German) at $5,320 via Sedo.  Sedo wound up sweeping 23 of the 24 chart entries (the extra spots resulted from a 6-way tie for the final position).
