Editor's Note: I was away covering the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. East conference last week so there was no domain sales column Wednesday, Oct. 23. However, I will bring you up to date on all sales reported since our last column (from Oct. 16 below) with a double length report that will be out next Wednesday evening, October 30.

Domain Aftermarket Explodes With 3 Blockbuster Sales Totaling $2.2 Million - One Ranks Among the Year's Three Biggest Transactions

For the last few months we've been watching the domain aftermarket get stronger and stronger. Still, I've been reluctant to say we have definitely turned the corner after a long recession fueled drought, but it looks like now is the time to get off the fence. The past week produced the year's third 7-figure sale as well as two other transactions that each came in close to the half-million dollar mark. With the return of the market's high end, we're now seeing steady sales in every price range.

Veteran domain investor Rick Schwartz was the first I saw go on record that happy days were here again (doing so as the summer was coming to a close), so it is appropriate that Schwartz is the one who rang up the blockbuster $1,350,000 sale of eBet.com this past week a transaction he detailed on his blog). That is one of the three biggest sales reported so far this year.

We saw two other deals that would have led our all extension Top 20 Sales Chart in most weeks other than this one. WebsiteProperties.com closed a $450,000 sale of Shout.com and the ICM Registry rang up  the year's biggest non .com gTLD sale with Teen.xxx going for $400,000

By Ron Jackson

Overall, the non .com gTLDs had their best week of the year. Teen.xxx and Sedo's $56,000 sale of USA.org gave the category two its five biggest 2013 sales (as well as two of this week's top four sales, regardless of extension). The non .com gTLDs went on to take four places on this week's leader board with a pair of two-letter .nets also landing on the elite list.

The ccTLDs were not as fortunate. In a rare occurrence no country code domains qualified for the Big Board this week and none even reached the five-figure mark. That cleared the way for the .coms to sweep 16 of the 20 chart entries, including the Go Daddy/Afternic sale of Skylofts.com that rounded out the first five at $41,250.

By the way, that Go Daddy/Afternic credit is a new one you will be seeing from now on. As most of you have heard, Go Daddy acquired Afternic from NameMedia last month. As a result, Go Daddy (who used to report only once a month, and then only their top 10 sales), is now putting out a weekly sales list that includes all of the notable sales on both the Go Daddy and Afternic platforms. Our thanks to Go Daddy Aftermarket Director Paul Nicks for providing this valuable new insight into aftermarket sales that will benefit all of us.

The combined might of Go Daddy and Afternic creates a formidable aftermarket sales force. This week they piled up 11 of the 20 chart entries. Perennial power Sedo also had another solid week with five charted sales. Chart honors also went to Michael Berkens's MostWantedDomains who sold #6 Collectively.com for $30,000

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 13:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value cash only sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

 Country Codes

After a big week last week when the ccTLDs had the year's 2nd biggest sale in this category, Cruises.com.au at $103,400, and seven others that reached five figures - things went in the opposite direction this week with no five-figure country code sales reported. That left the door open for Startup.tv to take the top spot on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart with an $8,750 sale at Sedo.

The runner up position went to Go Daddy/Afternic where YEC.co sold for $7,500. Brands-and-Jingles.com took the 3rd spot with Exactly.me at $7,499. Sedo answered with two Spanish domains  - #4 WebHelp.es at $6,750 and #5 Aupair.es at $6,749 - and they went on to sweep 16 of the 20 chart entries. DomNics.com kicked off the second five with their $6,500 sale of #6 FreeState.co.za.

Great Britain's .co.uk won the extension race with three chart entries followed by six TLDs that each scored twice - Germany's .de, Tuvalu's .tv, Colombia's .co, Spain's .es, Austria's .at and Montenegro's .me

If there are country code extensions in our report that you are not familiar with, you can look up the nation each extension goes with here

Non .com gTLDs (.biz, .info, .mobi, .net, .org, .asia, .pro & .tel)

As I noted in the all extension section above, the non .com gTLDs had an outstanding week with the category's biggest sale of the year, another that ranks in the top five and three more that hit five figures. Those headliners fill the first five spots on our latest weekly .Non .Com gTLD Top 20 Sales Chart.

The highest sales from this group that you haven't seen yet come from a trio of transactions at Go Daddy/Afternic where #6 Intro.net went for $8,412, #7 Mojave.net nabbed $8,000 and #8 SmartEnergy.net generated $7,000

The extension race wound up in a dead heat with .net and .org each claiming 9 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot resulted from a three-way tie for the final position). .xxx, .info and .biz each took one place on the leader board.
