Long
Holiday Weekend Brings Aftermarket Lull Offset by Sale Over $5
Million in Escrow
The four-day Thanksgiving weekend
in the U.S. cut the work week down to three days for most
American companies last week. While people are off enjoying big
family dinners and getting a head start on Christmas shopping, it is
traditionally a slow week for domain sales and that was the case
again this year. The highest sale reported was Ehaber.com at
$45,000 via Sedo,
one of only eight five-figure sales made public.
Still, the holiday was brightened
considerably by a report
(brought to our attention by George Kirikos) that Singulariteam
- an Israeli venture capital company - had bought Invest.com
for over $5 million (the exact amount and terms of the sale
were not specified). As of this writing the domain is in escrow at Escrow.com.
We would expect it to remain there until the domain is fully paid
for - either in a lump sum or through installment payments if the
contract specifies that.

We can't chart a sale until payment has
been completed and the exact price has been confirmed by a party to
the sale, but given the quality of the domain and the reputation of
the buyer, we don't doubt that the report is accurate and hope to be
able to fill in the rest of the picture when the name comes out of
escrow.
As it happens we have already
reported a completed 7-figure sale of Invest.com - back in September
of 2008 when Sedo's GreatDomains unit sold it for
$1,015,000 in the 7th biggest sale reported that
year. If it closes again in the newly reported range
that will be a five-fold increase in six years time.

Now, returning to the sales that were
completed over the past week, Bitcoin.com.au filled the # 2 slot on
our all extension Top 20
Sales Chart after changing hands for $35,182 at NetFleet.com.au.
That is the second time this domain has been sold this year. Last
April the domain went for $23,000 in a transaction handled by
Sedo.
NameJet
nailed down the #3 position on the Big Board with a $27,108
sale of Meixi.com. Sedo then rounded out the first five with
#4 Converted.com ($19,000) and #5 Vuxen.com ($15,600).
Sedo, who piled up 14 chart entries overall, also had the week's
only charted non .com gTLD sale with #6 SignUp.net at $13,000.
The ccTLDs fared better with six
charted sales including a pair of German .de domains that
joined Bitcoin.com.au in the top ten. Those were #7 Tanzkurse.de at
$11,067 and #9 Originell.de at $9,920.
The .coms swept the rest, taking 13
of the 20 chart entries overall. Here is how all of the sales leaders
