Flood of New Data From DomainNameSales Shows Domain Aftermarket is On Fire! 

Welcome to the biggest weekly domain sales report in the 12-year history of DNJournal.com! As we reported in our newsletters breaking down sales for the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2014, the domain aftermarket staged a major rebound in the second half of last year. It turns out the boom was even bigger than we realized. Numbers for the latter half of 2014 were impressive even though we had no sales data from two of the largest aftermarket platforms - Go Daddy Auctions/Afternic and DomainNameSales.com (DNS) - from the final two quarters.  Go Daddy had to stop reporting due to a quiet period (that is ongoing) surrounding their IPO application and DNS didn't report simply because they didn't have time to stop and reflect during what has been a period of major growth for them.

That changed this week when DNS gave us their voluminous list of sales covering the last 8  months (every sale since the start of 3Q-2014 through this past week). As a result we have over 1,500 previously unreported sales to share with you this week, resulting in an all extension Top 20 Sales Chart featuring 15 six-figures sales - the most ever in a given week (our policy on reporting sales has been to chart and list any sales made over the past year that are being reported for the first time in the week in which they are reported. When we learn about significant sales that are older than that they are added to our Top 100 Chart for the year in which the sale was made - those charts can be found in our Domain Sales Archive).

In addition to the millions of dollars worth of DNS sales being revealed in this report they had over $5.6 million more in sales over the same time frame that they couldn't report due to non-disclosure agreements. We obviously have a lot of ground to cover with what we do have, so let's get to it! The treasure trove of data from DomainNameSales.com included 14 six-figure sales led by Rangers.com at $375,000. Werk.com followed at $250,000 with #3 ErectileDysfunction.com adding $241,000. Shisha.com ($190,000) and Amber.com ($180,000) rounded out the first five. DNS proceeded to fill the chart with big numbers, taking 21 of of 22 positions overall (the extra sports resulted from a 3-way tie for the final position. All of the charted sales are .coms except one - #17 Move.org at $120,000.

With so much of their data coming out all at once, it is no surprise that DNS entries would dominate the chart, but Sedo.com, always a power week in and week out, maintained their high visibility with #8 (tie) Response.com at $150,000. 

Incidentally, while a big release of data will obviously overshadow other platforms in the week it comes out, the flipside is that the company releasing the data had no visibility on the charts for all of the months they were making sales but not reporting them - leaving the door open for competitors to sweep more positions and gain higher recognition over that time frame than they would have otherwise. So, the pros and cons for the reporting venues balance out over time and our readers win whenever data is shared as it gives them important insight into market trends and examples of what specific domains are selling for and that has always been the primary mission of our reports.

By the way, the massive and much appreciated release of DNS data has completely made over our Year to Date Top Sales Charts, so if you don't already check those regularly, now would be a good time to do so! Also, we want to thank Jeff Gabriel from DomainNameSales.com and Future Media Architects (and their law firm of Akin Gump) for allowing the release of some key FMA sales that were used in this report.

Now here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 8 (Editor's note: after this report was first published, we honored a request from DomainNameSales that four domains originally on this chart be removed due to non-disclosure requests. The rankings were re-ordered and text above amended as a result). 

.Com Supporting Cast

Our .Com Supporting Cast section has always featured four-figure .com sales but with so much new data this week it also includes hundreds of five-figure sales as well including more big ones from DomainNameSales. They collected $65,000 each for KaoKao.com, NewIP.com and Shijie.com while Boyi.com, Bunion.com and Shizhuang.com drew $60,000 apiece.  

DomainNameSales had 354 more five-figure .com sales ranging from $10,000 to $59,000 that are listed in the table below:

Of course, DomainNameSales also had an enormous list of four-figure .com sales that fall in the range we report ($2,000 to $9,999) - 924 of them to be exact! As always, Sedo continued to bang out big sales this week including Employer.com at $60,000, Hooq.com at $50,000 and Tapu.com at $35.000. LoveWars.com went for $17,500 while FanRewards.com and Vetify.com captured $16,000 each.

Sedo's hit list also included Alphr.com ($15,000), Cachaca.com ($12,000) and BGEO.com ($10,000). Sedo also had 47 four-figure .com sales ranging from $2,000 to $9,029 that are listed in the table below: 

NameJet joined the party this week, releasing their sales for the month of January with SelfieSticks.com leading the way for them at $29,100 - just one of many five-figure sales on their list. IYX.com kicked in $23,103, WZC.com contributed $20,509 and GYX.com added $18,189.

4994.com dialed up $16,100, KYN.com clicked for $15,900 and DDQ.com attracted $14,544. WireTap.com tacked on $14,100, DQZ.com cornered $12,401 and IXB.com bagged $12,322. In another win for numeric domains NameJet sold 3411.com ($12,000), 7553.com ($11,905) and 2508.com ($11,801). 

Their string of 3-letter .com sales also continued with QWH.com ($11,217), PFU.com ($11,100), YRP.com ($10,800), TQH.com ($10,372) and NPQ.com ($10,101). They also moved Opia.com for $10,000.

NameJet also had 123 four-figure .com sales ranging from $2,000 to $9,756 that are listed in the table below:

At Flippa.com the winners circle featured Bagz.com at $14,999 and two others - CasinoDeals.com and MiniatureGolf.com - at $10,000 each. Emerging.com generated $8,575, Coolant.com collected $8,500 and Disarm.com collared $5,000. 

Family-Magazine.com fetched $4,500 while three others - KombuchaTea.com, MyWearables.com and TheNinja.com - notched $3,000 apiece. EmailTraining.com booked $2,639 and ExerciseShoes.com shouldered $2,000. 

Elsewhere, Voove.com sold Exactis.com for $14,000, NameOptions.com sold BookAndTravel.com for $5,000 and GoDaddy Auctions sold a pair of names - InsuranceCalifornia.com for $4,950 and Tibs.com for $4,050 (while GoDaddy Auctions isn't publicly reporting their sales we occasionally get reports of sales made on their platform from individual buyers or sellers who use it, as in this case in a sale made by Domains90210.com on the GoDaddy platform).
