Blockbuster .Com Deal and Year's Biggest ccTLD Transaction Top This Week's Domain Sales Chart

On Tuesday (May 31) I told you about the Castello Brothers big sale of Rate.com for $725,000 in a deal brokered by Kate Buckley. Since we don't see a lot of sales reported at that level I expected it would top this week's sales chart and now that all the data is in hand that was indeed the case. In addition  to leading our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart Rate.com ranks as the 4th biggest sale reported so far in 2016

In another landmark sale Sedo super broker Dave Evanson closed the year's biggest ccTLD transaction to date - moving Purple.co.uk for a whopping £108,000 ($155,520). That almost doubles the amount paid for the previous 2016 country code sales leader - C.gl - a domain that Flippa sold for $85,000 in March. Purple.co.uk is also the biggest British ccTLD sale we've seen since Evanson sold Webhosting.co.uk for $500,000 back in 2012.

The non .com, gTLDs had just one chart entry this week but that one was the 3rd biggest sale reported overall. That was new gTLD YH.top that sold for ¥200,000 ($30,400) at the Jiangsu Bangning registrar.

A pair of .coms rounded out the first five. GGRG.com filled the #4 slot with 3606.com at $23,000 and Sedo sold #5 Minpaku.com for $17,000. Sedo wound up sweeping all of the remaining chart entries and every domain in that run was a .com except #19 Enalquiler.es, a Spanish domain that sold for €6,300 ( $7,056).

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. No doubt about the big story for the ccTLDs this week. That was Sedo's huge sale of Purple.co.uk for $155,520 that we told you about above. With that being the year's biggest sale to date in this category it was a long was back to 2nd place on out latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart but Sedo filled that slot as well with Enalquiler.es at $7,056.

They went on to pile up 12 of the 20 chart entries including #3 Sushi.tv at $6,000. Rounding out the first five were Park.io's $5,000 sale of #4 Die.io and Golem.eu's $4,479 sale of #5 HPA.eu. The latter was one of four charted sales for Golem.eu. Afternic.com got on the board by selling #17 (tie) DXR.us at $2,000 for Dusty Field.
