.NET Geodomain Takes Top Spot on This Week's Sales Chart & Ranks Among the Year's Top 20 Non .Com gTLD Sales

My previous sales report, posted Friday night (June 17), had an unusually large number of sales in it as it contained two weeks worth of data (due to my being away the previous week on vacation). Since it didn't come out until the end of the week (instead of our usual Wednesday evening release time) it also contained a lot of sales reported to us at mid-week that normally would have been in this week's report. So, the number of sales in this column (covering only the last 3 business days) is on the slim side while putting us back on our usual publication schedule.

The less competitive environment left the door open for a .net to take the top spot on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. That doesn't happen a lot, but this one, Mallorca.net, has nothing to apologize for after changing hands for a solid $33,900 at Sedo. That also put this geodomain, representing a popular resort destination in the Mediterranean, among the 20 biggest non .com gTLD sales reported so far this year.

By Ron Jackson

.Coms swept the next four spots (and 14 of 20 places overall) with that quartet including Sedo's sales of #2 BrightEnergy.com ($28,000), #3 Arbeitskleidung.com ($25,000) and #5 XBGlobal.com ($18,000). Sandwiched in between those was ErwanKina.com's $21,000 sale of #3 XCE.com.

The next two spots went to ccTLDs and the country codes went on two claim four chart entries overall. The pacesetters were #6 Welcome.co.uk at $14,700 and #7 Ksiegiwieczyste.pl at $14,690. Sedo logged both of those en route to piling up 17 of the 20 chart entries. Their roster also included a second non .com gTLD sale in #15 512.org at $8,250.

Chart honors also went to DomainMedia.ca for their $7,500 sale of #16 (tie) BCSA.ca and to SnapNames who moved #20 RetroPorn.com for $5,759.

Country Codes

The ccTLDs were led by four domains you saw on the all extension leader board above with Sedo's $14,700 sale of Welcome.co.uk setting the pace. The biggest sales in this group that you haven't seen yet are a pair of names tied for #5 our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. Those are SkipHop.com.cn and Welcome.co.nz, domains that Sedo sold for $5,500 each.

Sedo went on to claim 12 of the 18 chart entries. DomainLore.co.uk was next with three, including #10 Sword.co.uk at $2,556. Golem.eu scored twice - getting on the board with #15 Vagner.eu at $1,366 and #16 Inbank.eu at $1,129

Great Britain's .co.uk won the extension race with five chart entries. Germany's .de was just a step back with four. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, June 19 2016:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The non .com gTLDs were led by charted two sales you saw in the all extension section at the top of this report with #1 Mallorca.net making the most noise with that nice $33,900 sale at Sedo. You also saw their $8,250 sale of 512.org, so the biggest sales in this category that you haven't seen yet are a pair of .travel domains that tied for the #3 position. Those were Transport.travel and Transports.travel at $3,108 each via Isaac Paton Nicolau's PixelDreams.es.

Another Sedo sale, Bebes.net at $2,825 rounded out the first five. Only eight sales were reported for the entire group with SnapNames posting two of those - #6 FindEngineeringSchools.org at $2,075 and ElectronicDiscovery.org at $1,295.

With so few entries, the extension race was wound up in a tie between .net and .org with three entries each. Here is how the non .com gTLD sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, June 19, 2016:
