New gTLD Chartquake: $500,000 .Loans Sale Followed By $300,000 .CLUB Aftershock

Bad news has been piling up for new gTLD fans in recent weeks so a lot of people were shocked Tuesday when Donuts announced they had made a $500,000 all cash sale of Home.loans - the biggest new gTLD sale ever reported. A day later I'm sure some of our stunned readers still haven't picked themselves back up off the floor - but if you haven't you might as well stay down - here comes a major aftershock.

Today we learned that UK brokerage Brandaisy has closed a $300,000 sale of The.club (which becomes the 2nd highest new gTLD sale ever reported).  Brandaisy broker Kevin Brown provided me with a copy of the Escrow.com documentation of the sale. The buyer doesn't want to be identified at this time so the domain is under WhoIs privacy but I have learned some details about them from a different source and, in order to respect their privacy, I will just say their financial resources will not be at all strained by the price of the domain which is now serving as the home for a luxury vacation home travel club.

In the wake of those two unprecedented new gTLD blockbusters, the #3 sale on our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart almost gets lost in the shuffle, even though it too reached six figures through Sedo where broker Frank Tillmans closed the $155,000 deal for Can.com. Sedo also sold #4 Orbs.com for $50,000 with Abdullah Alkulaibi's $40,000 sale of Finchain.com in a private transaction rounding out the first five. Alkulaibi also sold #10 RippleChain.com via Afternic for $18,995.

By Ron Jackson

Sedo swept 11 of the 20 chart entries to easily win the race among venues. Two others had multiple chart entries. GritBrokerage filled three slots with a trio of .co ccTLD sales - #6 Rival.co at $30,000, #13 Range.co at $18,000 and #19 Curate.co at $14,000. Meanwhile, Michael Mann's DomainMarket scored twice with #15 FiveStarApartments.com at $16,000 and #17 RespiraVita.com at $14,888

Mann's sales helped the .coms pile up 12 places on the leader board followed by the ccTLDs with six (Sedo posted three of those country code sales, matching Grit's three). The non .com gTLDs were limited to two spots - but they were the ones that mattered most - #1 and #2

Here is how the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, January 21, 2018:

Country Codes

The ccTLDs continue to turn in good performances week in and week out. This week they were led by the six five-figure sales you saw on the all extension leader board above, with Rival.co leading the way at $30,000. The highest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is the #7 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Sedo's $9,300 sale of Sousvide.de.

Sedo swept 16 of the 21 chart entries (the extra spot resulting from a tie for the final position). They sold #8 BPI.co for $8,900 for AdbulBasit then rounded out the top ten with ProShop.es ($6,200) and EVB-Nummer.de ($4,837).

Germany's .de won the extension race with eight chart entries followed by Colombia's .co with six. Here is how the top ccTLD sales stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org and others, including new gTLDs)

What the non .com gTLDs lacked in numbers (only 12 sales were reported in this category) they more than made up for in quality pricewise, with those two blockbuster new gTLD sales of Home.loans and The.club. The next highest sale on our latest weekly Non .com gTLD Top Sales Chart just missed the five-figure mark as TopShelfNames.com sold #3 Populace.org for $9,950 via GoDaddy.

Sedo rounded out the first five with #4 VR.berlin at $8,506 and #5 Anwang.org at $7,099. Sedo swept went on to sweep 8 of the last 9 entries on the leader board - the lone exception being Logan Flatt's $4,500 sale of YPI.org
