Quintet
of Six-Figure Sales Headline a Fabulous Fortnight for the Domain
Market
While we took last week off to cover the T.R.A.F.F.I.C.
conference and SedoPro Partners Forum in New York (reviews
of both events will be published by the end of the day Monday), the
dike burst in the domain aftermarket, flooding the industry with a
tsunami of scintillating sales. Five of those cracked the six-figure
mark and if it weren't for a non-disclosure agreement we would also
be reporting the name of a one-word .com that went for $830,000
in a deal brokered by Moniker.com.
Even with that one off limits, there is no shortage of
eye-popping sales to tell you about. We'll bring you up to speed on
all of the transactions reported since our last column June 12 and
we're expanding our usual Top 20 chart to 50 positions to make room
for all of the heavyweights that entered the ring over the past two
weeks.
By Ron Jackson
While this column is jammed with sales
gems, an even bigger wave is headed this way after Moniker
sold close to $11 million worth of domains at their live
auction during the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference last Thursday (June
21). Those sales have just entered the escrow process and will be
popping up on our charts in the weeks ahead as payments are made and
the names are transferred to their new owners. You can see all of
the high bids here.
Meanwhile Moniker's silent auction is winding down and will
conclude Wednesday morning (June 27). The silent auction is expected
to add a few million dollars more to a tally that has already shattered all
domain auction records.
While there is a lot to look forward to,
let's focus now on the flurry of sales over the past fortnight. Sedo.com
led the charge with the €150,000 ($201,792) sale of Masculin.com
("masculine" in French) to the owners Zedcom, a
company that operated a French magazine at Imprevisible.com.
They purchased the domain name from Virtual Network SA to
rebrand the magazine and have now transitioned it to the new URL.
Sedo had more sales on the Big Board than any other venue, walking off
with 20 of the 50 entries.
SnapNames.com
claimed the runner-up slot with the $171,750 sale of DreamLife.com.
HotProperty.com landed in the #3 position after being acquired by
Australia's Transparence
Group for $120,000 in a private sale. Moniker
then took the spotlight with the first of three sales that ranked
among the top eight, WifeLover.com at $100,930. Afternic.com/BuyDomains.com
also broke the six-figure barrier with #5 MyFinance.com banking
an even $100,000.
While .coms always dominate the
leader board, the country codes also turned in a very strong
performance this week, grabbing 10 positions on the all-extension
elite list. That group was led by the largest verified .cc
sale ever reported, #9 CC.cc at $70,000. The sale to Korea's
Jong Kim was made by Original
Web Ventures with Moniker handling the escrow. .cc is the ccTLD for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
The non .com Global Contenders were
also represented by four entries, two .infos and two .nets.
The top seller in that category was #17 Christian.info,
purchased by domainer turned minister Adam Woeger of Colorado
for $35,000 in a private transaction. Adam also acquired #39
(tie) Christian.us for $13,500 in another private
deal.
In a notable private .com sale that
reached the upper third of the expanded chart, Rick Latona
bought Tasks.com for $40,000 from Bruno Falconi
who operates Health.md.
Here's how all of the
leaders stack up for the two-week period ending Sunday,

Keep in mind that these are the highest
value sales that have been reported to us in the
past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool,
not a complete list documenting ALL high
value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce
because many sales are kept private at the insistence of
buyers, sellers or both.
As if that wasn't enough, there were 12 more five-figure
just off the chart. Sedo.com accounted for more than half of those.
The .coms in their group included Aromes.com ($10,764) and a
quartet at $10,000 each made up of Snik.com, SavingAccounts.com,
LottoResults.com and EssentialReality.com. They also had
a five-figure .net and a five-figure .de. We'll tell you about those
in the Global Contenders and Country Codes sections coming up
later.
Afternic/BuyDomains racked up three more five-figure
sales with PWRD.com, Loci.com and
Exchanger.com attracting $10,000 each. SnapNames also got into the act with Meetin.com
at $10,350 and a five-figure .org that will we'll talk
about in the Global Contenders section.
With 63 five-figure or higher sales reported over the
past two weeks, you can imagine how big the four-figure list was.
SnapNames had nearly a hundred sales in that range including Betrayal.com
($9,302), PhotoPosters.com ($9,000), PornSource.com
($8,100) and PowerCrunch.com ($8,000). LiveDirectory.com
delivered $7,988, WineHolders.com uncorked $7,927,
Male4Male.com corralled $7,900 and OrderStatus.com
dug up $7,877.
MontanaWeb.com connected for $7,600, MalayalamSexMovies.com
screened $7,400 and BootyTalks.com brought $7,211.
Millf.com managed $7,100, Shortage.com squeezed
out $6,988 and WeddingOrganizers.com tied a $6,643
knot. Other winners at SnapNames included Microcontrollers.com
($6,569), DealStore.com ($6,211), HipHopValley.com
($6,100) and PCHunter.com ($5,877).
SnapNames had 80 more four-figure .com sales ranging
from $2,000 to $5,300. You can check those out in the
