Trio of 6-Figure Sales Including the Year's 2nd Largest ccTLD Sale Headline a Big Week for the Domain Market

The domain aftermarket continues to gain steam as we head into the home stretch for 2013. The past week saw three 6-figure sales reported and more than 50 five-figure sales - an exceptionally large number that would have allowed us to fill two Top 20 Sales Charts and still have nearly a dozen domains left over.

DomainNameSales.com led the charge with the two biggest sales - DataCenters.com at $190,000 and Waitress.com at $168,000. Both of those rank among the 20 biggest sales reported so far this year.

The third sale at that level was the year's 2nd biggest ccTLD sale - Cruises.com.au at 110,000 Australian dollars - that's $103,400 U.S. at the current exchange rate. dTrade.com brokered the sale of that domain to OzCruising Pty Ltd.

By Ron Jackson

The seller had already developed Cruises.com.au and, as regular readers know, we do not include developed websites on our charts unless the parties to the sale specifically break out the price paid for the domain name only from the other business assets. That rarely happens but in this case it did.

To get Australia's category defining domain for their industry, OzCruising paid a total of 165,000 AUD ($155,100) for all assets, including a Facebook page and the existing customer data. The two sides agreed the value of the domain alone was $103,400, a figure that looks reasonable for such a valuable keyword in an important  ccTLD.

Another solid ccTLD sale took the #4 spot on our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. That was DailyDeals.co.uk at $55,000 via DomainNameSales. They rounded out the first five with YourRights.com at $45,000 and went on to sweep eight of the top ten sales, with a hand in 12 charted transactions overall. One of those was a sale they shared with DomainHoldings - #13 (tie) BusinessGifts.com at $28,000.

NoktaDomains got one of the top ten entries that eluded DNS with #10 Wreckers.com at $30,000. Sedo and Afternic each claimed two spots on the Big Board with #11 CBS.de ($29,940) leading the Sedo roster and #16 (tie) Exoskeleton.com ($25,000) setting the pace for Afternic. Also earning chart honors this week were NameJet for # 13 (tie) TTM.com at $28,000 and Domains90210 for #20 Concert.tv ($21,000).

The .coms piled up 16 of the 20 chart entries with the remaining four all going to ccTLDs, leaving the non .com gTLDs out in the cold. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 6:

This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both.
