2014 Domain Sales Chart Gets a New Leader With 7-Figure Sale of a 2-Letter .Com

As we reported in our Lowdown section yesterday Xiaomi Inc., a major consumer electronics manufacturer in China, has purchased MI.com for $3.6 million in the biggest domain sale reported so far this year. Xiaomi will use the domain as a shorter more memorable brand that they feel will serve them better as they continue to expand into international markets where a Chinese word like Xiaomi would be more difficult for consumers to remember.

In addition to taking over the top top spot on or Year-to-Date Top 100 MI.com, of course, leads our latest weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. The .coms swept the first six spots on this weeks leader board with Go Daddy/Afternic accounting for four of those. They scored with #2 Trade360.com at $42,500 and also tied for 3rd with JSA.com at $25,000

Sedo earned a share of that #3 slot with their sale of Fun8.com, one of 10 chart entries they piled up to lead all venues. Go Daddy/Afternic rounded out the first five with My Suit.com at $24,999 and they went on to have a banner week of their own with eight names on the Big Board.

By Ron Jackson

The ccTLDs earned two spots on the elite list with Sedo's $22,770 sale of #7 Gewerbeflächen..de (an IDN that means "commercial space" in German) and Rocketna.me's $20,000 sale of Smart.ly.

The Non .com gTLDs clamed four places on the second half of the chart, all booked by Sedo. They rang up $13,800 for #14 Kalk.net and also booked three nice .club sales - #15 Chinese.club at $13,750 plus two that tied for #16 at $12,500 each - Meet.club and Toys.club

The .coms took everything else to end up with 14 entries on the honor roll. Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, April 20:
