Popular Surname Proves to Be a Valuable Domain Name Too - $90,000 Price Tag Tops This Week's Chart

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Walker is one of the 30 most popular surnames in America. The more common a surname is the higher value it is likely to have as a .com domain. Walker.com showed that again his week when Sedo sold the the domain for $90,000 to top our latest all extension Top 20 Sales Chart

A lot of businesses are named after their founders so the more common the surname the bigger the pool of potential corporate buyers (a class that also has the ability to pay top dollar to get the name they want). Such was the case here with the Colorado based Walker Manufacturing Company (a maker of riding lawn mowers) snapping up this domain - a nice upgrade from their current WalkerMowers.com domain that also opens the door for them to expand their brand to other products if they wish.

The next three spots on the leader board all went to James Booth's BQDN.com, with the two highest of those representing the ever popular 3-letter .com category (one that James specializes in). Those were #2 MZL.com at $38,250 and #3 CJN.com at $36,000. BQDN also sold #4 3523.com for $31,000.

By Ron Jackson

The short domain trend continued with ATTT.com rounding out the first five after a $10,749 sale at SnapNames.com. The .coms wound up sweeping 16 of the 22 chart entries (the extra spots resulting from a five-way tie for the final position). Nametra.com and DomainMarket.com contributed to the .com effort with, respectively,  #13 HiringManager.com ($7,000) and #18 (tie) SkinwIn.com ($5,000)

The ccTLDs also had a good outing with five charted sales, all posted by Sedo. Two of those landed on the top half of the elite list - #6 Moda.pt (representing Portugal) at $9,630 and #8 Just.io at $7,999.

The non .com gTLDs were limited to a single entry, that one a new gTLD, #16 Eldebate.club, that went for $5,500 at Sedo.
