MusicVideos.com Tops This Week's Domain Sales Chart and Ranks Among the Five Biggest Transactions Reported This Year

MusicVideos.com changed hands for $250,000 through Sedo.com to easily claim the #1 position on this week's Top 20 domain sales chart. Buyer Merlin Kaufmann did not have the domain for long. He told me he has already flipped it to another buyer at an undisclosed price. The domain was sold by search engine giant Yahoo. This sale ties for fifth place on our Year To Date Sale Chart.

Another six-figure sale, Optimize.com, took the number two spot after going for $115,000 at PremiumDomains.com. Seller Francois Carrillo had acquired the domain two years ago for just $24,650 so that proved to be an exceptionally sound investment.

One of the five ccTLDs that crashed the all extension chart holds down the #3 spot. That is Gold.co.uk, a British country code domain that attracted £42,050 ($63,916) at Sedo. Latonas.com also scored with a big ccTLD sale, moving #7 Clocks.co.uk for $19,000

By Ron Jackson

Two non .com gTLDs also joined the party, led by #6 PaydayLoans.info at $24,000 through Sedo. That is the biggest .info sale reported so far this year and the third biggest non .com gTLD sale. This category was also represented by #19 Whisky.net, sold by Sedo for €8,000 ($11,040).

Sedo had a monster week, sweeping 17 of the 20 chart entries - the most ever taken by a single venue in one week. Their winners included #5 313.com at $25,000 - one of the 14 .com domains on the Big Board.

In addition to PremoumDomains and Latonas.com, the only other venue to break Sedo's stranglehold on the elite list was Moniker.com who closed the $27,500 sale of #4 OrganicCosmetics.com, a domain they auctioned off in their live auction at DOMAINfest Global in January.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 14:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.

Country Codes

One of the year's ten biggest country code sales helped power the ccTLDs to another outstanding week. Gold.co.uk went for $63,916 at Sedo to lead our weekly Country Code Top 20 Chart and take over 8th place on the ccTLD year-to-date leader board. That was one of five 5-figure country codes sales this week, all of which we showed you in the all extension section at the top of this report.

The biggest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet is #6 Krimi.tv, sold for $8,970 at Sedo. TheBible.co.uk was just a step back after going for $8,512. A pair of two-letter German .de domains; JO.de and MA.de, followed at $8,418 apiece. Sedo accounted for all of those sales and went on to sweep 17 of the 20 chart positions.
