Pair of Six-Figure Sales and Another Big Group of 3-Letter .Coms Take the Spotlight on This Week's Domain Sales Chart

This week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart looks a lot like last week's chart with .coms taking nine of the top 10 spots and 16 of 21 entries overall (the extra spot resulted from a tie  for the final positions). Also like last week the leader board features five 3-letter .coms domains, five ccTLDs and no non .com gTLDs. The big difference from last week is we had two six-figure sales this week after none hit that mark last time out.

DomainNameSales led the way with a $150,000 sale of CurrencyConverter.com. DNS broker Alan Crowe moved that name for seller Garry Chernoff. DNS came through for Garry on a second name too, with broker Mohammed Khan moving #3 EscapeArtists.com for the legendary Canadian domain investor at $60,000.

Sandwiched in between those two was the week's second six-figure sale - one of those very popular 3-letter .coms - this one an ultra-rare repeating letter version - VVV.com - that went for $136,400 at NameJet.com. The other four 3-letter .coms on the leader board were all sold by Sedo with #8 JUR.com leading their acronym quartet at $16,055.

By Ron Jackson

Sedo, who swept 16 chart entries overall, also accounted for all five of the ccTLDs that crashed the Big Board. #6 VisitDubai.ae (representing the ccTLD for the United Arab Emirates) led that category after changing hands for $29,800 in one of the ten biggest country code sales reported so far this year

Two other venues helped power the .com onslaught with Mike Mann's DomainMarket.com selling #5 MissCandy.com for $30,000 (a name the Mann said he acquired for just $75 in 2012!) and Michael Berkens' MostWantedDomains.com moving #7 MakeItPop.com for a cool $25,000

With the .coms and ccTLDs teaming up to run the board, there was no joy in non .com ville again this week with no reported sales in that category reaching five figures.

By the way, you all know that a lot of the biggest domain sales never get reported due to non disclosure agreements. Broker George Hong of Guta.com, who has helped us verify the prices paid in several high end domain sales, completed two six-figure sales of his own this week, but in this case he couldn't tell us the prices due to NDAs. He did identify one of the domains as CHU.com and the other as a .CC country code domain. That's an exceptionally high price level for a name in that extension to each but Hong noted .CC is more popular in the buyer's location - China (where some market them to mean "Chinese Companies) than in other regions. In another big NDA sale, Michael Berkens moved Stuff.com at a price believed to be well into six figures if not higher).

Country Codes

The ccTLDs had another very solid week, led by the five sales you saw on the all extension chart above - all of which hit five-figures with VisitDubai.ae leading the pack at $29,800, followed by a nice Swedish numeric domain, 888.se, at $13,243. Those sales helped Sedo sweep all 20 chart entries, not the first time they have done that in this category - one that they have traditionally dominated.

The biggest sale in this group that you haven't seen yet is # 6 on our latest weekly Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Tickets.gr (representing Greece) at $9,900.

Germany's .de and Sweden's .se shared a win in the tight extension race with three chart entries each. Four other TLDs has two apiece. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 22:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

The non .com gTLDs had no five-figure sales again this week but Sedo came close with two 3-letter domains, selling BFG.org and DXB,net for $9,888 each to top our latest Non .Com gTLD Top Sales Chart. Only 13 sales were reported for the entire category with Sedo logging all of those.

They rounded out the first five with #3 Parhomenko.net at $7,000 and a trio of names that tied for #4 - J8.net, Want.info and WLX.net - at $2,500 each.

The .nets won the extension race nipping the .orgs 6-5. .Info and new gTLD .tips claimed one entry each. Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, March 25:
