Domain Related Conferences Continue to Evolve With New Codemology Hackathon Set for Charlotte Next Fall

Earlier this week I told you about a unique new conference coming to Los Angeles this summer that will bring the domain, development and startup communities together. Now, just four days later, comes word of another new eventCodemology -  also unique in its approach - that will be staged in Charlotte, North Carolina October 1-2, 2016.

Ryan Colby
Codemology Founder

This new "Domain Name Hackathon,"  that will be held at the McColl Center for Art & Innovation, is the brainchild of veteran domain broker Ryan Colby, the Founder & CEO of Charlotte-based Outcome Brokerage. Prior to opening his own shop in 2013 Colby had successful runs at both Sedo and DomainHoldings.

The Codemology site details how this conference will be different from anything the industry has seen to date, noting  "Codemology is the “study and application of code to a domain name that creates innovative technology solutions for large industry problems.” We do this through an interactive weekend experience commonly referred to as a “Hackathon” where software engineers showcase their talents in a competition style format. Most importantly, it's all about having FUN!"

The event synopsis adds, "Codemology is a new form of workflow designed for technology teams to achieve optimal outcomes. We integrate the best practices from multiple disciplines to help teams create a Minimum Viable Product for a domain in just one weekend. Our framework seeks to foster creativity through divergent thinking and teaches teams how to identify novel ideas from the excess supply of premium domains in the market."

"Unlike other hackathons, we utilize a curated pool of domain names as the “canvas” to build great ideas on. The event serves as the conduit between the developer teams and domain owners who have submitted their digital assets for consideration in the competition. The collective value of the domain pool will exceed $25 million."

Though just announced today, Colby has obviously been busy laying the groundwork for Codemology for some time now as he already has an impressive list of speakers, mentors and judges lined up for the event. Those  include  Braden Pollock (Legal Brand Marketing), Logan Flatt (Ansira), Luke Heron (Bypost.com), Thomas Friend (Agile on Target), Roy Morejon (Command Partners), Mark Levine (Hillcrest Media Group & Fiction.com) and Joshua Orbach (Swag.com).

The initial agenda for both Saturday (October 1) and Sunday (October 2) is also already on the Codemology website. It features a wide array of tech talks, development workshops and parties as well as a closing Awards ceremony. Colby expects the event to attract a mix of top university students, developers, VIP domainers, VCs and mentors.  He noted, "We are a bit different from traditional hackathons which only allow students to participate. In this case we are creating a very unique networking opportunity for all."

This week's arrival of two unique events that

Braden Pollock will be among the speakers, mentors and judges taking part in Codemology next October in Charlotte.

will open attractive new avenues both into and out of the domain world are great signs that the industry is poised for more growth and innovation.  If you have any questions or would like more information on Codemology you can send a note to [email protected].
