Floor.com and Modern.com Become the Final Members of the 2008 Year-To-Date Top 100 Sales Chart

The curtain came down on this year's domain sales season this week with a pair of six-figure sales becoming the final members of the 2008 Top 100. Moniker closed the $275,000 sale of Floor.com and the AfternicDLS booked $160,000 for Modern.com. 

Floor.com thus claimed the #29 spot on the year's final chart while Modern.com settled into the #56 position. Every name on the elite list went for at least six figures again this year.

Editor's Note: The $2,300,000 sale of #4 Pharmacy.com was made iin 2008 but did not come to light until August of 2019 when it was found in an old corporate filing. As a result it was added to this chart on August 21, 2019.

** In November 2009 an insider shill bidding scandal was revealed at SnapNames.com that affected as many as 50,000 auctions from 2005 to Oct. 2009. Sales from the tainted auctions were completed at the prices listed however, in an effort to offset some of the damage done, SnapNames offered refunds to those who paid more than they otherwise would have had the shill bidder not been running up the price against them. Some accepted those refunds and other did not, choosing to seek compensation through the courts. 

There is no way to know who received partial refunds and on what domains those refunds were issued, or even which reported SnapNames sales over the years were affected by the shill bidder. So, we are advising readers that even though SnapNames sales listed between 2005-Oct. 2009 were completed at the prices shown, some buyers may have received refunds after October 2009 of a portion of the original prices they paid.

Our final 2008 YTD Global Contenders Top 100 chart added one new member in the closing week of the year. That was Hunk.net, a name that sold for $17,000 at Sedo to claim a tie for the 86th position. It took a minimum of $16,000 to make the final YTD chart.

Country Codes (ccTLDs)

Our final 2008 YTD Country Code Top 100 chart welcomed one new member in the closing week of the year as Money.eu (European Union ccTLD) slipped in under the wire with a $20,005 sale at Sedo. That was good enough to take the #72 position on the elite list. It took a minimum of $16,395 to make the YTD Top 100 in this category.

** In November 2009 an insider shill bidding scandal was revealed at SnapNames.com that affected as many as 50,000 auctions from 2005 to Oct. 2009. Sales from the tainted auctions were completed at the prices listed however, in an effort to offset some of the damage done, SnapNames offered refunds to those who paid more than they otherwise would have had the shill bidder not been running up the price against them. Some accepted those refunds and other did not, choosing to seek compensation through the courts. 

There is no way to know who received partial refunds and on what domains those refunds were issued, or even which reported SnapNames sales over the years were affected by the shill bidder. So, we are advising readers that even though SnapNames sales listed between 2005-Oct. 2009 were completed at the prices shown, some buyers may have received refunds after October 2009 of a portion of the original prices they paid.
