The Aftermarket's Mid Range Flexed Its Muscles With 54 Five-Figure Domain Sales Reported This Week

No blockbuster domain sales were reported this past week but the market's mid range made plenty of hay with more than 50 sales of at least $10,000 hitting the books. Sedo had the highest of those with Award.com at $56,005 and they went on to put nine names on our new all extension Top 20 Sales Chart.

The .coms ruled, sweeping 15 of the 20 chart entries, including the first five. MediaOptions.com and UpMarketURLs.com teamed up to sell #2 Submit.com to Richard Lau and Sherene Blackett of Doingo, Inc. for $35,000. Eric Rice's DNCartoons.com claimed the #3 slot with Screenshots.com at $32,500, followed by the MostWantedDomains.com sale of #4 TheMeditator.com for $30,000. Sedo's $28,000 sale of ZUM.com rounded out the first five.

By Ron Jackson

A pair of ccTLDs joined the party paced by #6 Reiseziele.de, a German domain that changed hands for $27,000 at Sedo. The AfternicDLS also put a country code name on the Big Board - #19 Moebel.eu (a European Union domain) at $13,365. That was just one of five places that the AfternicDLS claimed on the elite list.

The non .com gTLDs also got into the game with three charted domains - a .net and a pair of .orgs. #9 (tie) Portugal.net led that category with a $20,000 sale at UpMarketURLs.com. One of those .org sales was a quick flip that earned a nice profit for the seller. Musik.org had been acquired just last month at NameJet for $8,065. This week the new owner moved it for $14,850 at Sedo to earn a tie for the 14th position on the new leader board.

Here's how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, Feb. 13:

Keep in mind that these are the highest value sales that have been reported to us in the past week. This column is meant to be an educational tool, not a complete list documenting ALL high value domain sales. Such a list is impossible to produce because many sales are kept private at the insistence of buyers, sellers or both. Our procedure for verifying the accuracy of domain sales reports is available here.

For the many newcomers entering the domain industry we also want to point out that the reasons why a domain name sells for a certain price can be varied and are not always clear to those who are unfamiliar with the domain market. If you do not understand why specific domain names command the prices they do, you are likely to make unwise domain registrations or purchases. We highly recommend that you do some basic research before you buy anything! As a starting point we have built a sister site specifically for you at NameNewbie.com.
