3 Letter .Coms Hit a 2015 High With $290,000 Sale That Tops This Week's Domain Sales Chart

We've been talking a lot about a boom in 3-letter .com sales this year and yet more fuel was added to the fire this week when broker George Hong of Guta.com closed the biggest sale of the year to date in that category - moving PPP.com for $290,000. Both the buyer and seller wish to remain anonymous but George provided proof of the price paid and we also know the seller who has been a party to many major acquisitions and sales in recent years. PPP.com ranks as the year's 7th highest reported sale overall.

A second 3-letter .com is among the top five on this week's all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Jeremy Rasmussen moved #5 QYJ.com for $32,000 in a private transaction. The popularity of 3-letter acronyms also extends to other TLDs (though at considerably lower prices than corresponding .coms). A Dutch ccTLD, #17 (tie) PNG.nl, made the Big Board with an $8,100 sale at Sedo.

By Ron Jackson

Rob Grant reported an impressive sale in another category this week - .com city real estate domains (a sector he has long specialized in). Rob sold #2 JacksonHoleRealEstate.com for $85,000. Sedo filled out the first five with #3 Houtian.com at $59,000 and the week's biggest country code sale - #4 Lights.co.uk at $37,750 (that is also one of the year's 10 biggest ccTLD sales).

Sedo piled up 14 of the 20 chart entries, including 12 of the final 15. The spots claimed by other sellers were #8 BlockchainTechnology.com (sold by DIS Inc. for $15,000), #11 Mawad.com (sold by AbdulBasit.com for $11,500) and #14 TaxReturn.com.au (sold by NetFleet.com.au for $9,572).

The .coms claimed 14 of the 20 chart entries with the ccTLDs sweeping the remaining six, including three in the top ten where Sedo's sales of  #6 Bodybuilding.at ($23,490) and #7 Ticket .co ($20,000) joined Lights.co.uk. That left no room for the non .com gTLDs. For the second week in a row that group had no reported sales above $6,000.

Here is how all of the sales leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, April 19:

Country Codes

The ccTLDS had a very solid week with four five-figure sales led by Lights.co.uk at $37,750. That sale at Sedo was the 7th biggest country code sale reported so far this year. You saw the six biggest ccTLD sales on the all extension chart above, so the largest sale in this category that you haven't seen yet is #7 on this week's Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Ten.co.uk, a domain that DomainLore.co.uk sold for $6,569.

Rounding out the top ten are Voove.com's $6,342 sale of #8 OnTechnology.co.uk, followed by Sedo's $6,297 sale of #9 Rocket.tv and three more Sedo sales that tied for #10 at $5,400 each.

Great Britain's .co.uk won the extension race with six chart entries, followed by Germany's .de with three. Here is how the country code leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, April 19:

Non .com gTLDs (.net, .org, .biz, .info & others, including new gTLDs)

It was slow going for the Non .Com gTLDs again this week with the highest reported sale in this category coming it at $6,000. That was good enough to give Sedo's sale of new gTLD Drone.academy the top spot on this week's Non .Com gTLD Top Sales Chart.

Sedo wound up sweeping 18 of the 20 chart entries including the first seven in a row with a roster that included #2 Bancaverde.org at $5,292 and #3 Construction.world (another new gTLD) at $4,999. Voove.com took the two spots Sedo missed with a pair of numeric .nets that tied for #8 at $2,500 each - 364.net and 053.net

The .nets easily won the extension race with 10 chart entries. The .orgs and .infos followed with three each.  Here's how all of the Non .Com gTLD leaders stacked up for the week ending Sunday, April 19:
